Dr. James D. Hemmig is an expert primary care eye doctor and general optometrist who provides expert prescriptions and treatments for all ages. Dr. Hemmig also practices as a developmental optometrist with specialties in children's vision development, Vision Therapy and vision related learning disorders.
Dr. James D. Hemmig in a top eye and vision specialist in the evaluation and treatment of the visual health and function of all types of special needs patients, including pediatric, geriatric, developmental delays, and nonverbal. Individuals with special needs and/or developmental delays require special testing of their eye health and visual function.
Good vision happens in a person’s brain/mind/body, not just in a set of eyeballs! Dr. James D. Hemmig examines and tests the entire visual system of the whole person in order to determine the very best prescription and/or the most holistic vision care solution. Our eye exam will evaluate your total visual function as well as your eye health.
Some visual conditions cannot be treated adequately with glasses, contact lenses, surgery, and/or eye patching and are best resolved through a program of Vision Therapy. Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised, treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies.
Expert visual evaluation and treatment is critical after a head or brain trauma, because (1) vision happens in many areas of the brain and (2) many people don't realize that the physical, behavioral, and cognitive changes that occur after a stroke, TBI, post-concussion, etc. can often be due to treatable vision problems.

Yesterday (09/22/2020), I called to make an appointment. After putting me on hold for a bit then asking what I needed, I explained that I needed an appointment. Rather than ask any follow-up questions like "when did I need the appointment" or "what is the evaluation for", the person on the other end of the phone said, "well, I'm not sure when we could do that since we're scheduling into December now". I never even got to ask about insurance or whether I could just pay cash, just told that you all couldn't help me. The person was so rushed to just get me off the phone that they didn't even try to

My vision kept getting worse because of seeing double. Went to local opthamologist, opticans around the area and kept paying them for eye exams and new glasses which they kept assuring me would adjust in time. Just a waste of money. Called other doctors specifically about double vision, including some in Alabama and Tennessee.
They always said to come in for eye exam. Well, I have been down that route and paid wasted money. So, I specifically asked if they actually had experience in double vision. Answer was always the same, No. ( had to really pin them down to get an honest answer)

Absolutely love my glasses! The gentleman in the eyeglass area picked them out for me, and these are absolutely the best glasses that I have ever had. He also recommended blue thing for the lenses due to being on computers all the time, and I can definitely tell the difference. I really appreciate the professionalism the office had but also welcoming atmosphere. Dr. Hemmig also explained many things indepth for me that I wanted to know more about. Everyone was delightful. I'll definitely be coming back. Thank you very much :)

3 weeks and still waiting for my reading glasses. I had an appointment on Jan 9, 2019. This was my first time with Dr. Hemmig and everything went fine with the appointment. I used the in-house optician to get a new pair of reading glasses. I'm still waiting. Supposedly the local place they use is having problems. I asked Patrick what he would do to make this right with a first time customer and the response was underwhelming. I will never use the optician there again and I'm having second thoughts about using Dr. Hemmig.

I almost didn't schedule an appointment with this doctor based on the reviews, but since they were old, I decided to give it a try. I couldn't be happier with my experience!! A week before my first appointment, my last contact ripped, and even though I wasn't officially a patient yet, they gave me a spare pair of contacts to get me through to my appointment. The office staff and nurses were so nice, friendly and funny. Would recommend this doctor to my friends for sure!
