The Moffat Road Railroad Museum is now closed to visitors for the rest of summer season in order to do more projects and restoration work. We will reopen the day after Thanksgiving for the holiday season and be open until mid-January.

The model railroad display is typically open in the summer starting Memorial Weekend through September and then again the day after Thanksgiving through the first week in January. The Moffat Road Model Railroad was originally started in 2009 by the Grand County Model Railroad Club as a working display of the "Moffat Road" Railroad - the Denver & Northwestern Pacific R.R. from Denver, Colorado to Craig, Colorado circa: 1905 thru 1960's.
The Moffat Road Railroad Museum is working on several railroad equipment restoration projects that make up the Interpretive Center, as well as fully-restored projects including the Visitor Center. The museum currently has five pieces of railroad equipment located at the Railroad Interpretive Park that are in various stages of restoration.
The historic Heritage Square Wedding Chapel, built by Magic Mountain construction team from Disney back in 1956, is now our Museum's Visitor Center & Gift Shop. We have fully restored the building and added a copper bell tower. The Visitor Center includes a gift shop (complete with Lionel and BRIO train sets), plus numerous educational wonders including an interactive train display, historic artifacts, and more.
The car was built in 1905 by the American Car & Foundry Company, who also built the same model for David Moffat's railroad. We are still working on the restoration; however, you may enter the empty car. We are very thankful to have come across the opportunity to restore this passenger car through Ozark Mountain Railcar and its private owner.
The most recent addition of railroad history to our Interpretive Center, this is the oldest and only remaining vintage 1906 Moffat caboose! This rare, wooden caboose came to the Museum in January of 2021. Our plan is to restore it to its 1936 steel construction. It was quite costly to transport this vintage caboose to our museum in January of 2021.

Our family really enjoyed our stop at the museum. The folks who run it are very helpful and friendly, and it is obvious that they love what they do. The artifacts are interesting and the indoor model railroad will keep your kids happy. The owners are also very knowledgeable about other things to do in the area. It is definitely worth the stop to see the museum, and meet the fine folks who run it.

We try and take our kids down to see the layout every Christmas. This year we went and turns out they had a special guest...Santa and 2 of his reindeer. Needless to say it was great to see Santa and for the boys to get to have a seat and talk with him.
After a brief conversation regarding gifts, a few pictures, hugs and high fives from Santa we went to see the Christmas trains.
The trains are always fun for us and the boys. We got to see numerous trains travel around the O scale layout. We even did the scavenger hunt which helps you see the little details.
