The Nelson Law Office P.C. draws upon extensive experience and provides the highest standard of legal representation to achieve our clients' objectives. Our matters range from simple uncontested cases to complex litigation. Our attorneys are acquainted with the judges, court staff, and other matrimonial lawyers practicing in Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens counties, which facilitates our efforts in resolving our clients' matters.
Common topics in these agreements are whether a home, bank accounts, retirement or other property is going to be shared or kept separate in a relationship. People also may discuss who will be paying for what household expenses. And while many couples use these agreements for divorce planning, it is also a valuable way to arrange what would be shared or kept separate in the event of death of one partner.
You can gather lots of information on the internet, from friends or family who have been through it, and other sources. However, every family is different and you should be careful to get the right information for you. If you would like to receive a tailored overview of the law and how it applies to you, please contact us to schedule a confidential free initial consultation.
We strive to find solutions to the problems faced by our clients, and that includes legal matters involving children, even when not related to divorce or separation. We are experienced in counseling individuals and families with concerns about custody, parenting time, visitation, child support, guardianship, relocation, grandparents' rights, and paternity.
We are a full-service family law firm, also handling appeals, enforcement and modifications of prior orders, orders pertaining to retirement (known as domestic relations orders and QDROs), orders of protection, name changes, and birth certificate corrections. Ms. Nelson did a really great job handling our divorce. She was thorough, efficient and kind. She made the process very bearable and got us both through a tough time in our lives. I really appreciated the way she worked with the both of us.

If you are searching for a lawyer who listens, seeks to really understand her clients and their needs, is whip smart, tough when needed, very practical, transparent and clear with her clients -- look no further. Kim is extraordinary. My now ex and I wanted a peaceful, collaborative divorce, and found that the mediators we started the process with actually inflamed the situation vs. bringing us any closer to resolution. We finally found Kim, and she brought us over the finish line. Highly recommended.

I'm not quite sure what to say besides that Kim Nelson saved my life. Kim normally focuses on peaceful resolution to divorce and arbitration, but in my case she protected me during one of the most painful moments of my life.
I was engaged, we did couples therapy, that failed. We did discernment counselling, that failed.
After living through a soap opera moment, overhearing a conversation where she planned to divorce me shortly after getting married, I called it off in our last therapy session.
Since I wasn't married I didn't think I needed a lawyer, that wasn't until she started threatening

Full disclosure: I am an attorney and I worked for Ms. Nelson for over a year from 2015 to 2016. But I am not writing as a former employee (although she was a wonderful boss) - I was also a client. Ms. Nelson handled my divorce for me, and she did a fantastic job. As difficult and contentious as divorces can be, she made the entire process as bearable as possible. She always kept me posted regarding her negotiations on my behalf, and ultimately resolved everything as favorably for me as possible. I learned a lot from Ms. Nelson both as a client and an associate, and I highly recommend her to handle

While having to have a Family Lawyer to deal with the issues of divorce is never what you would want to do all of the time, Kim is incredibly good at her job. For someone who has never gone through this process, she was able to explain all of the complexities and contingencies in a simple and straight-forward ways. I can honestly say that I made some of the most important decisions of my life with her guidance and was able to do them with confidence because of her. I would definitely recommend her to others.

Having to make immense decisions that will forever change your children's lives is something that deserves good counsel. In this regard, I can wholeheartedly recommend Kim. Family law is tough and it's important for a lawyer to explain (clearly) all of the ramifications and contingencies before you make any permanent decisions. She gave me the confidence to move forward and with all parties (ie children) taken into account. Definitely worth it.

I'v been waiting for an opportunity to warn people about this attorney.
A few years ago he represented myself and family in a divorce. He took all of my parents money and gave all the work to his paralegal. He did not once look at any paperwork or evidence I submitted to further investigate my ex-husband's income, etc.
To top it off, his colleague told a dirty joke in my presence with both my parents in the room.
Avoid this attorney. Your'e welcome.

Updated 9/29/2011: I called the firm for another matter, and sadly was informed that Robert Nelson had passed away some months earlier. He was a good guy and will be missed. I am sure the firm will continue to conduct business in the same matter.
===============================
Robert Nelson and Shana Curti helped me out when I had no money and had been almost ruined by another lawyer, Sari Friedman. I should have called them first. They are a local firm in the neighborhood, not one of these high-priced attorneys. They care about their clients, and try to work out the best deal they can

Excellent family lawyer.
A friend had the occasion to use this lawyer and he had to be the best damn family lawyer on the planet.
He really takes up the cause of women who are about to get the sh**ty end of the stick in a divorce - the guy is a miracle worker.
He is also reasonable with the prices etc - you get way more than what you pay for.
Highly recommended if you need this particular kind of lawyer.
