Here at American Oak Resort in Houghton Lake, Michigan we want to provide you a calming, comfortable rental cabin or chalet to relax in while offering the latest upgrades possible in our constantly changing world. We continuously are upgrading our rental cabins with the latest available technology as well as renovations when needed.
American Oak Resort is the leasing agent for 10 of the 11 units we own of the American Oak Condo Association. Our rental cabins are rustic, with pine walls, oak cabinetry and tiled kitchens and bathrooms. The rental cabin and chalet bathrooms feature full size tub/shower enclosures making baths for children easy.

Services
The property features a large fire pit centrally located between the cabins and chalets for everyone to come together and enjoy nightly campfires. In the fall, we have plenty of room to accommodate your hunting group. During winter months American Oak Resort offers snowmobile rental, and we often have "Stay and Play Packages" available.
The frequently updated/renovated two bedroom cabins and three bedroom chalets are all equipped with full size kitchens. Flat screen televisions in both bedrooms and the living room (deluxe cabins and chalets) are our latest upgrade. We have extended basic cable and wi-fi available free for all of our guests.
Please note, price does NOT differ for less days. Chalet prices start at 850.00 for 8 people, 900.00 for 9 people, 1000.00 for 10 people, 1100.00 for 11 people and 1200.00 for 12 people. Hunting season rates are based on 4 persons per cabin, and 4 persons per chalet. Call for specific pricing on additional guests.
Pontoon Boats with 75 or 90 HP are additional $100.00 per day if pulling a tube plus $25.00 for tube rental. You can pull one tube only. The tube must be a tube rented from American Oak Resort, NO EXCEPTIONS. Contract will end without refund and boat will be returned if found with pets, grills or tubes not paid for at time of booking.
The city of Houghton Lake, Michigan has numerous restaurants and bars located around the perimeter of the lake. There are also local custard shops and ice cream parlors. If you are looking for unique souvenirs, we have many locally owned businesses with everything from wind chimes to moccasins. The city of Houghton Lake has a historic movie theatre, built in 1941 to look like a hunter's chalet.

I was looking for a place to stay this Thanksgiving and realized we stayed here for a week a few summers ago and it was terrible. The guy who runs it is not exactly a "people person". The bathroom door was broken and the neighborhood the cottages are located in is not very nice. We spent a couple of hours cleaning and it was much cleaner when we left then when we arrived and still didn't get my deposit back. I should've called but the guy was so rude I didn't bother. I've been going to HL for 47 years and this resort was by far the worse I had ever stayed in.

We just recebtly rented a pontoon from this company and have to say it was a great experience. The potoons were nice and roomy and in good condition. The husband and wife who own the buisness were very hospitable and friendly. We had great conversation with them and felt very appreciated for our buisness. I would highly recommend this company if your looking to have a great time on the lake with friendly and great costomer service. We will deffinatley be back.

I've been here 2 years in a row with my parents and we LOVE it! This summer we brought a group of friends along and we had a BLAST! The cabins are rustic & comfy & it's a short walk down to the private beach. The water is warm & clear. We even get to bring our Great Dane Duke along for vacation since he's part of our family.

They are currently renovating their chalets. New appliances, countertops, and flooring. New paint too. Just missing a few items like rug at front door and bath mat, mirror in bathroom. Furniture is a bit old. Light in hall was missing and the ceiling fan in one bedroom didn't work. Our 5 adults, 2 children and 1 dog fit nicely with room to move around. There's no dishwasher but not a deal breaker for a fishing cabin. People were nice for the most part. We were accused of taking 4wheeler keys but we didn't even rent anything like that. The cottage we stayed at was usable, but not very clean and had many issues. Wouldn't recommend to anyone who is looking to spend a lot of time in the cottage. Air conditioning didn't work due to previous Tennant's who trashed the place. Other than that, the optimal location, shallow sandy water and available boat rentals was a bonus. This place is more for the group of guys going on a fishing trip or any group who is looking to leave and go explore the great town and lake surrounding the cottages.
