David Phillips and Judy Volmert are independent therapists providing counseling and therapy services in the town of Snohomish. David is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), and Judy is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). The difference in their licenses reflects some differences in the emphasis of their individual Masters Degree programs.
To be licensed in the State of Washington, all therapists must have completed a Masters Degree followed by hundreds of hours of supervised sessions with clients. Whether you're experiencing psychological distress associated with an event that took place in your past or you're dealing with something more related to the present, a skilled therapist may be able to help you manage your emotional challenges more proficiently.

People have struggles and challenges that are unique to themselves, that are a part of their full life story. Together, we find a way for them to move forward. With my "counselor hat" on I help find those places and ways in which things in the "outside" life of the client can be adjusted and changed.
The decision to enter therapy, perhaps for the first time, can be a watershed moment. The person you choose to go with you on that journey should match with who you are. I have sat with many people and families in my 20+ years in private practice. I believe in actively working with my clients so that they can reach their goals.
There may be an old problem that needs a new solution. There may be a new problem that calls for gathering together all your strength and resources. There may be the sense of just being stuck and not knowing how to get going again. Judy Volmert and David Phillips have a total of over 40 years providing counseling services to adults in Snohomish County.
If you're living with a teenager who's having difficulties sorting out issues, counseling can be very helpful to everyone. Growing up has never been easy and it doesn't seem to be getting easier. There can be so many things to sort out: family disruptions and conflicts, changing bodies, fitting in with peers, finding friends, and academic pressures.
When you are worried, confused, or concerned about your child's behavior it can be a good idea to seek some assistance for your family. It has been said many times, because it is true, kids do not come with manuals! Each child and family are unique and it is sometimes helpful to have another set of eyes looking in at the very particular ways we adjust to life.

Judy is an exceptionally competent and professional, yet comfortable counselor to work with. I highly recommend her as an individual, marriage, and family counselor. One of the most impressive things about her was how immediately she was able to establish a rapport with my daughter, who is not one to cooperate with or communicate well with just anyone--especially not someone she had just met! There was practically no hesitation with Judy, and that meant getting guidance and support a lot quicker than if we had needed to spend several visits just getting my daughter comfortable, like I expected
