Services
Georgia Dance Conservatory (formerly Ruth Mitchell Dance Theatre) was founded in 1956 by the late Ruth Mitchell, an Atlanta dance pioneer. Ms. Ruth set the standard for dance training in Atlanta with the best instruction, exemplary performances, and the highest standard of technique. Later, Ruth Mitchell moved the studio to downtown Marietta on the Marietta Square where Georgia Dance Conservatory resides today.
Georgia Dance Conservatory's dance program divisions are designed to foster growth in every student at an age appropriate level, while providing a clear progression through each discipline. At GDC we believe in providing excellence in dance education from the tiniest tot to the most advanced teen, pre-professional, or adult student.
Georgia Dance Conservatory's Pre-Primary Division provides a nurturing environment for our youngest dancers to learn, grow, and express creativity. Our objective is to inspire a joy for movement and establish classroom etiquette in a structured, safe, and encouraging environment.
GDC's Pre-Primary Ballet classes introduce young children to the fundamentals of classical ballet, focusing on proper body alignment, basic ballet technique, terminology, and musicality while promoting confidence and a sense of achievement.Georgia Dance Conservatory's My Tiny Tot & Me classes are focused on creative movement in a structured and fun atmosphere.

Each class includes work in the center, across the floor, and stretching to create body awareness that will enhance motor skills. Our Primary Combo classes provide exposure to two disciplines of dance which alternate every other week.
Georgia Dance Conservatory's Studio Division allows recreational dance students to progress through the levels of each dance style while fostering the development of confidence, poise, discipline, and positive self-expression. Each discipline has a specific focus, from alignment, strength, and flexibility to memorization, coordination, and performance.

I've been to many recitals prior to having kids because my friends mom owns a dance studio in the city. I decided to put my daughter in this school because it's much closer to home.
We were never allowed to go in and watch because of covid, which is fine.
However, when the recital finally came I was excited with high hopes. I must say I was super let down. There was lack of coordination for all ages. I'm not even sure what the theme was or if there was a theme.
I would honestly give them one star for the lack of coordination and rhythm. But I'm giving them 4 because they

This dance studio is wonderful. They are fairly priced and have a family atmosphere. The kids enjoy the teachers and the teachers are kid-friendly. They are all-around wholesome family dance class. They offer a wide variety of choices and styles. Lawanda at the front desk is an amazing person and super friendly.
We have left GDC due to the way one particular teacher mistreated my daughter.
The last dance recital she had their the underage girls were wearing extremely inappropriate costumes and the music selection were even worse.
Do not send your young daughter to this school unless you

I danced at this studio for 5 years, primarily taking ballet. I was thrilled with the expertise of the faculty and the level of choreography I performed. I wish there was more of a bridge between the non-company students, and company students, however. Though I only danced 2 days a week, taking ballet and pointe, I felt rather excluded from the rest of the dance studio who studied in the company at a rather high price.
