Colorado offers reporting options for survivors of sexual assault ages 18 through 69. Please note that, due to other mandatory reporting obligations, these reporting option do not apply to minors or at-risk adults. For individuals who do not fall under these two categories, survivors have three options.
Services
The office is empowered and obligated by state law to seek justice by exercising its prosecutorial discretion in cases involving violations of Colorado's criminal laws committed by adults and juveniles. We are committed to advocating for victims' rights and promoting public safety. The primary objective of the Office of the District Attorney is to seek justice.
Judicial District 18 is Colorado's Largest district comprising four counties and over 1 million constituents. George Brauchler was elected to the post of District Attorney in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. You can search for a specific court case through the Colorado Judicial Branch docket search system.
The District includes Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties and more than 1.1 million people. John grew up in a military family, moving frequently. After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps to carry on that tradition of service. John came to Colorado for law school at the University of Colorado-Boulder.
If you are in danger call 911 for immediate assistance. To report a possible crime, contact the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction where the incident occurred. Law enforcement investigates reports of crimes, then forwards their findings to the district attorney. The district attorney determines whether to proceed with criminal charges in court.
The new crime lab at 8555 Double Helix Court in the Meridian Business Park will provide DNA analysis, chemistry, fingerprint analysis, document examination, firearms examination and other lab services for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, the Aurora Police Department and the District Attorney's Office of the 18th Judicial District.
