Port Townsend School Of Woodworking
We invite people of ALL genders and races to come and learn fine woodworking. This is where beginners and intermediate students learn truly "fine" woodworking. Super sharp tools are provided for most beginner courses. We offer courses in fine joinery, built environment, custom furniture making, beginning machine or hand tool use, carpentry & carving styles of various cultures, turning, and coopering.

Scholarships/VA funding available! Hopefully one day I'll be a local crafts-person stopping in to see what the furniture students are up to. I've always loved making things.

Our mission is to inspire a lifelong respect for craftsmanship and a passion for creating by providing a diverse, safe, and excellent woodworking education for all. We range in age from 18 to 85. At first glance you might wonder what brings us together. The answer is a shared love for woodworking. We're serious about technique, maintain a tireless work ethic, thrive on helping each other solve problems.
For over 25 years, the idea of a woodworking school lingered in the imagination of Port Townsend. We lived with it, talked about it, agreed that it was a part of the essence of our community, but it always seemed to dissipate before anyone could organize the idea into a solid reality. Nonetheless, the enthusiasm for woodworking was undeniable and occasionally surfaced in organized events.
Please sign up for our E-Newsletter to be notified about community presentations. If you have a presentation idea that falls under our mission and would like to be sponsored, please contact media@ptwoodschool.org. The Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival is held annually every weekend after Labor Day.
To say we owe our success to the hard work of its board is dangerously cliche, but it's true. The work of a board during an institution's initial stages of development requires members to be involved in the minutia of daily operations and problem solving, while simultaneously attending to the big picture and long-term planning necessary for sustainable growth.
The Port Townsend School of Woodworking proudly partners with organizations and businesses who help us serve our mission. To learn more about these organizations and business or to find out how to become a partner or affiliate please email Executive Director Heron Scott at Heron@PTWoodSchool.org. These organizations offer a discount to their members for courses offered by the Port Townsend School of Woodworking.
