Hunter Bay Woodworking is a custom woodworking shop with a broad skill set. We have experience with traditional as well as contemporary boat building techniques including cold molding, plywood, stitch and glue, and custom interior design and construction. Boats large and small are our love but we are equally capable of building doors, cabinets, furniture and the occasional circular staircase.

We enjoy working in an instructional and collaborative mode, sometimes building side by side with our clients; we provide the shop space, tools and expertise. Sharing our woodworking skills and experience is a joy. Please get in touch with us to discuss your project, whether you have a design in mind or if you only have the beginning of an idea.
Services
In 1974, with an engineering degree and several years as a house carpenter under his belt, Steven Brouwer, owner of Hunter Bay Woodworking Co., began his career as a boat builder at The Apprenticeshop in Bath, Maine. Two years there and six more years boat yard hopping in Maine formed a varied but solid foundation of woodworking experience.
Hunter Bay Woodworking, through the generosity of Fred and Bill Howell, has acquired the makings of a Lyle Hess 32' Bristol Channel Cutter. This hull is finished and I am looking for someone to participate in the completion this boat. Two apprentices, Cedar and Brett, and myself have begun building this handsome 32 footer.
TERN was built by the hands of 8 amatuer woodworkers in the Hunter Bay Woodworking shop. Steven provided comprehensive instruction, tools and facilities through every stage of the construction. Steven rebuilt BLUEBIRD from the hull up, working side by side with the owner throughout the project. LOON was built stem to stern in the Hunter Bay Woodworking shop on Lopez.
