The history of the steins in really interesting and something we are asked about quite often. From about 1340 until 1380, a Bubonic Plague, or Black Death, killed more than 25 million Europeans! As horrible as this historic event was, it promoted tremendous progress for civilization. And, of interest here, it is also responsible for the origin of the beer stein.

Loved this shop. Was mine and my husband's first time in this lovely place. They have a vast variety of items , trinkets, mugs, quills and inkwells, teas and puzzle boxes. That is just to name a few. The gentleman there was perfectly sweet and helpful when I asked a few questions and I was so excited to see dragon items as well as the writing stuff. It calls to the inner nerd who loves bookish items and has a love for dungeons and Dragons lol. Can't wait to visit again.

We came in early to Hermann Friday night and needed time to kill before dinner. Unfortunately, every place seems to close in Hermann around 4. Luckily the BEST shop in town is open Friday evening! If I could give it 6 stars, I would!
You could get lost in this place for HOURS.....which is shocking considering the size of the shop. They have everything here! They have many different types of jams and salsas. I love peach salsa and was so excited to find it here! Add this to the fact that the salsa was less than half what I pay on the west coast and boom.....I had 3 bottles in my bag. I have also

This cute shop was full of little treasures. They had home decor, art, jams, jellies, baking and cooking mixes and even some fudge at the check out counter.
I was drawn in my sign out front proclaiming they carried homemade apple butter, salsa and hot sauce. When I got inside I enjoyed looking through three floor to ceiling shelves of all kinds of homemade items. I ended up with a jar of pumpkin butter and salsa.
Then I spotted some dried pastas and grabbed two bags of those too. I would have shopped longer, but my friends were more interested in getting to the wineries.
I hope to go back

This was the classiest, most interesting gift shop I visited on a recent trip to Hermann. The owners stock a thoughtful mix of traditional German and locally made goods.
I'm a jam and jelly fiend, so when I saw local jams advertised on the steps of this store I had to check it out. Inside, there is a room full of handmade Mennonite jams, jellies, relishes, and other canned goods. There are also German mustards, candies, mixes, and miscellaneous foods. I loaded up on mustards, red tomato jam, cherry pie jam, pumpkin butter, and other deliciousness.
Other wares include local art (some excellent
