Lava Heights Academy provides a welcoming and affirming environment for young females (assigned at birth) ages 12-17 who are struggling with mental and behavioral issues, which may have made it difficult to remain at home, in school, or their community. We are a residential treatment center offering comprehensive and therapeutically informed art programs covering all four arts modalities - music, drama, art, and dance and movement.
Our arts professionals work with teens who have psychological, emotional, behavioral, social, and other developmental challenges - reaching them in ways traditional talk therapy cannot. Referrals can be initiated by parents, along with mental health professionals, including psychiatrists and education consultants.

Services
Like our students, our staff and team members come from all walks of life and from many different backgrounds. Our team members are not only highly educated in their specialized areas of expertise, they are role models for each other and for the students. We have caring and dedicated staff members who truly become like family to each other and to our students.
Located in Toquerville, Lava Heights Academy is licensed by the state of Utah as a Residential Treatment Center and is accredited by the Joint Commission. At Lava Heights Academy, therapists and arts professionals work together with students to help them learn to accept themselves, the ideas of others, and to welcome feedback and praise in a healthy manner.
Each space on the campus has been carefully created to promote an atmosphere that enhances artistic expression while prioritizing safety and health. The campus includes comfortable and secure dormitories, classrooms, rehearsal rooms, and performance spaces - including a black-box theater. Lava Heights Academy is nestled among the black lava rock bluffs at the gateway to Zion National Park.
Lava Heights Academy strives for a multi-faceted, holistic, and integrated clinical approach to treatment. One of our main goals is to help teens heal from past traumas, learn health coping skills, and build healthy relationships. We accomplish these goals through comprehensive and therapeutically informed art programs that cover all four arts modalities - music, drama, art, and dance and movement.
At Lava Heights Academy, we use integrated art programs as a powerful strength-based therapeutic approach to help teens build self-confidence and an authentic self-identity. Through creative art expression guided by art professionals, our students are able to build on their artistic talents and strengths.

I was here for about a week.their were nice staff but they were very low on staff and people were quiting left and right there was only one nurse and she was only there on the weekends. What really botherd was if one kid was acting up it would mess up the whole schdule it seemed the staff had very little over the giris. One thing i did notice were that there was a lot of good people working like the staff and teachers the facility its self looks very nice and the therapist did seem to care a lot but in my opinion it should b shut bc of how short they are on staff

I spent over a year here and I miss it every day. Their way of using the students peers as the biggest therapy tool is amazing, the staff was incredible and cared about all of us so much, the teachers went out of their way to help us succeed, which meant a lot to me as someone who's struggled in school since 5th grade after being in AP classes my whole life. The theater program was so much fun and I'll never forget the music and acting teachers, they honestly meant the world to me while I was there. I would 100% recommend this program.

Before I went to Lava Heights, I was depressed, a self harmer, and I was into substance abuse; blaming my family for my problems through all of this. Now that I'm out and graduated, I have graduated High School a year early (from Lava Heights), applied for college and have my classes picked out, am working two jobs to pay for college and have an amazing relationship with my family. Lava offers AA, addictions group, a safe environment, healthy boundaries with a co-ed environment, fun and appropriate activities, and an over-all great experience. It's not bland, there are decorations accommodating
