Liberty Drug and Surgical, privately owned and operated, has been serving its community since 1933. Founded in lower Manhattan, Liberty moved to Chatham, NJ in 1965, where we have evolved into a premier compounding center as well as a full service pharmacy. Our state-of-the-art compounding lab enables us to provide customized medications in a variety of dosage forms for adult, pediatric, and veterinary patients.
An estimated 50 percent or more of medications for chronic conditions, such as high cholesterol and diabetes, are not taken as prescribed. Medication non-adherence can lead to worsening health conditions, hospitalizations and death. Whatever the reason is for medication non-adherence, we have a solution for you.
In Liberty's private medical room, certified mastectomy fitter recommends NaturalWear breast forms and bras made by CAMP. If you are in need of any medical equipment or supplies or just have a question, ask a staff member today. Our staff will make it as easy as possible to get the equipment you need, including the billing.
Medication therapy management, otherwise known as MTM, is a term used for a program to help you manage your medications and health conditions. Do you want to know how best to take your medications to get the most from your medications?. Would you like to have a complete list of the medications you take for your personal use?.
Receiving vaccinations prior to your trip will help keep you and your family safe and healthy while traveling. Knowing you are protected from diseases like malaria, yellow fever and typhoid will give you peace of mind so you can spend your time enjoying yourself. It's important to get vaccinated at least four to six weeks before you travel.

Quite possibly the nicest and most generous local business I have been to in all my years living in NJ. The store is lovely, good parking, easy to navigate, well stocked, clean, and has everything you need including orthopedic equipment. The pharmacy is outstanding, and this is due to their incredible staff, who are not only knowledgeable but incredibly generous and kind, particularly Hassan. I will be a very regular customer and recommend them highly.

Good pharmacy but very unreliable when it comes to mailing. I've been using Liberty for over a year and the majority of my prescription refills, which are supposed to be mailed, weren't sent out until I followed up. Staff have informed me that my account has a note to always mail and, when calling in a refill, I use the option to attach a voicemail, reminding them to mail it. Still, it's not sent out until I call a week or so later to chase it down.

This is a very strange business. Hard to reach. When you do speak to someone, they act very bothered. So yes, most insurance doesn’t cover their products and you have to wonder why. Perhaps it’s a part-time business and they don’t operate most days anymore.

This family owned business in Chatham is price gouging and charged a physician's wife $20 per mask so her husband can go to the hospital and save lives. They should be donating masks like so many other business in the area are doing. This is disgraceful and I will never set foot in this store again.

Pharmacy: 5/5
Customer Service: 1/5
Usually very friendly and helpful. As of late, the male who answered the phone is rude and abrupt. He makes you feel as though you are bothering him if you have questions about obtaining your medications, and was only willing to spend 15 precious seconds on the phone with me before hanging up as I was mid-sentence, asking a second question to clarify payment. Hope service isn't always this poor. Disappointing.

Amazing place and amazing people. They offer delivery service which is priceless for the medications needed for patients. Use this company and you won’t be disappointed. Family owned and operated business and my first choice for medication fills.

Terrible pharmacy. I had to go to them to create a compound medicine, they told me I had to pay out of pocket because they don't bill the insurance company when they are compounding and that I have to request a reimbursement from the insurance. This was a TOTAL LIE! I reached out to my insurance to submit a reimbursement (which was denied) and they told me the pharmacy used an ingredient which was not covered and that the insurance initially rejected the claim from the pharmacy on the initial date of service.
Long story short, don't go to this pharmacy for compounded medicines!

I called to ask a question about prescription delivery and apparently I was bothering the lady. I'll go right to the big box pharmacies or online services. So much for trying to use a local shop.

Decided to give this place one more shot, and again was sorely disappointed. Besides not having cotton balls (after searching for 10 minutes) they literally turned the lights off on me as I was walking to the register right at 8 (they close at 8). I reminded the man that we had spent 5 minutes looking for nonexistent cotton balls and maybe could he turn the lights on. Nope-had to check out in the dark and trip on my way out (ps I was trying to buy lotion for my son who had a raging case of poison ivy-so was not casually browsing).

This business obviously does not care one iota about its patrons

I am a first time customer of Liberty Drug. My veterinarian called in prescription for my elderly "health challenged" dog. It was called in late on the day before Thanksgiving. Considering I am about 25 minutes away and it being the holiday weekend, I opted to have the prescription shipped via UPS. Everyone I dealt with while confirming the prescription was called in from the doctor, and giving my information was wonderful to deal with. Thinking I wasn't going to get the prescription until that Saturday, since my doctor called it in late the day before a holiday, I was getting

I am a relative newcomer to Liberty Drug and use them only for compounded medication for several of my pets. I really like that they offer a variety of flavors such as fish and chicken so it tastes better. Also the pharmacist Dane has gone out of his way to make sure that everything is in order and ready on time, even if I forget to renew the prescription in time. Sometimes I browse through the store and their jewelry is very cute and well priced. It's a fun place that has a nice retro vibe.

We can't say enough good things about Liberty Drug. They have helped us so much with compounding prescriptions for our pets. They are courteous, professional, efficient, and have gone above and beyond when we needed a prescription that is not often compounded-it involved a few extra steps on our part, and they walked us through the whole process. We highly recommend this business!!

Don't judge a book by its cover. Old school pharmacy that could use a renovation BUT when it comes to the customer, I was provided excellent service. Filling a pharmaceutical compound is quite difficult in the state of NJ because of big Pharma presence in the state. The fact that Liberty exists and can fill the prescription accurately, legitimately, safely is a monumental accomplishment. I had great customer service from more than one person in the pharmacy.

Liberty Drug & Surgical Pharmacy does not look particularly interesting from the outside. The building looks like it has been there since the 50's or 60's. There is a sign on the building with the name of the business and there are some thin windows that let you sort of see inside.

I grew up going to smaller pharmacies like this one (read: not part of a chain like CVS or Walgreens) and I had memories of them not only having a section for prescriptions, but also a toy section and maybe an area with oddball items and housewares. So when I peeked inside and saw what looked like a

This pharmacy knows zero about customer service. The woman behind the counter was not only rude and condescending to me (see similar reviews below) when trying to return a defective wrist brace, but was also visibly abusing one of her coworkers, (or worse, employees??) in front of other customers. It's hard enough for a local pharmacy to compete and survive with larger stores moving into the area....it's baffling why they would put themselves at an additional disadvantage by mistreating their customers. Stay away.

Disappointed. This used to be our families pharmacy. This used to be awesome. But if there was ever a problem with my prescription they would not call me. I would go there going to find out that there was none in stock or that they couldn't fill it or the insurance didn't cover it. They never actually pick up the phone to call their patients to let them know. And then there was this whole health insurance dispute. My health insurance is no longer going to cover the party drug which I think is terrible because it is just trying to kill family pharmacies. But really they were terrible about communicating

I have been going to Liberty Drug for about a year - specifically for compounded products. They have been great. No complaints whatsoever. In fact, its a pleasure going there and they are 2 towns away. I think Liberty is a special place and took the time to write this review and I have only written 1 or 2 other Yelp reviews ever. Previously, I went to CVS in my town or the next town (for 13 years) and all I did was WAIT. Lines at pharmacy or lines to get a spot in the over crowded parking lot. I almost didnt want to write a review because I don't want Liberty to become too well known and

As a loyal customer of Liberty Drug Store during the 20 years that I lived in Chatham and the 4 years that I live in Hoboken, NJ, I continue to use Liberty as my primary pharmacist despite the distance!

The reason is simple. Al Brown, the owner, has created an environment where I am treated with deep respect, sincerity, and always an explanation to my questions. I am always confidant that I am getting the correct medicine, and I am always surprised by the amount of time any of the staff will take with me, in person or over the phone to explain something to me. I don't even want to name just

Ask for Michele if you're interested in natural approaches to support health and wellness. This is her area of expertise. Liberty is a great outlet for anyone who prefers not to use OTC or Rx or maybe wants additional support. The staff are trained for everyone's health and safety.

Liberty Drug talked me into a compound medication in cream form for my pet instead of a pill. First they said that I would never be able to cut the pill into quarters because of its size. The vet from the emergency care facility told me that I should go back to his original prescription in pill form and re-sent the prescription in. Liberty Drug then told me that I would have to buy a minimum of 100 pills and it would cost almost $200??? I called the vet's office and they did a little research and found another pharmacy who had no problem quickly filling my prescription.

Why is it so

This place is horrible. First of all it looks like it hasn't changed since the 1960's. Second, I rented a pediatric wheelchair for $60/month for my 2-year old who broke her leg. After two days, she still couldn't use it because she wasn't big enough, so I took it back. Most nice places would give a full refund since it was only two days and it couldn't be used. The lady there, Leslie (who lied and said her name was Melissa even though everyone called her Leslie), only gave me back $40. When I asked for a full refund, she gave me attitude saying I was lucky she was doing
