Every portion of your visit is of the highest quality: a thorough non-rushed comprehensive eye exam with the latest technology, leading to a final glasses prescription. Then with the help of our skilled opticians we create a hand-selected, custom crafted pair of glasses. Save time by printing and completing your Patient History form ahead of your appointment!.
Years of specialty contact lens fitting has made us a resource in the local region for difficult cases including post-surgical cases, keratoconus, advanced corneal disease states, etc. We also have an extensive inventory of trial lenses to find the best fit for our patients, including colored lenses.

Services
Professional Opticians was opened in 1954 by Raymond Turrell jr on Meridian street in downtown New London. Later the practice was moved to the New London shopping center in 1977 where is stayed until 1999, finding a new home in Waterford at the plaza on Clark Lane. Finally, in 2009, we relocated to the beautiful new office where we now are located, in an adjacent building in the same plaza on Clark Lane in Waterford.
A comprehensive eye examination consists of several components. Initially, a complete medical history is taken to address any potential eye diseases or complications related to a systemic condition or medication and to discuss our patient's individual ocular concerns. A refraction is done to determine the best possible glasses prescription customized for each patient's needs.
We are pleased to announce that our practice has been one of the first in New England to launch a new blood test aimed at identifying individuals at risk for Sjogren's Syndrome. Sjogren's (SHOW-grins) syndrome is a disorder of your immune system identified by its two most common symptoms - dry eyes and a dry mouth.
Dr. Mary C. Beaulieu obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the American International College in Springfield, MA in 1984 and earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA in 1988. She also went on to do an elective residency program at the Brockton/West Roxbury VA hospital after graduation.
Diabetes is a micro-vascular disease, meaning it causes greatest damage to the fine blood vessels of our bodies. A comprehensive eye exam is extremely beneficial because it offers a unique view of these vessels first hand, something that is not possible anywhere else on our bodies.
As doctors, we are able to see these changes before they cause vision-threatening damage, and are able to communicate with specialists in other fields to improve glucose control in an effort to reduce progression.Unfortunately, diabetes continues to be the leading cause of newly diagnosed adult (20 to 74 years of age) blindness in the United States.

This was first time here. They were extremely prompt & ready for me before I was finished checking in. The med tech/ assistant was very nice & thorough. Dr Sanborn came in & was awesome!! Very nice, took his time explaining stuff, professional & personable, going over my history & current issues alike. I never felt rushed or confused!! I was extremely happy that I went there/found them!! 😃

I haven't even been seen yet & i am already loving this office.. SHOUT OUT to Amy who helped me book my appointment & was so sweet & patient with me being her last call of the day. She didn't rush to try & get home instead she took her time with me, was thurough & had patience the whole time. Right away she let me know appointments were booked out at least a month & a half out gave me the number to another office that also accepts my insurance & is taking new patients faster. She was so sweet & genuinely made my whole day. I appreciate you Amy you deserve a raise. Thank you for your service i am

Fantastic practice & following safe Covid protocol procedures. Dr. B. is outstanding~professional yet personable. The office atmosphere is very relaxing & the assistants friendly. Although the front staff are busy and efficient as is needed for such a busy practice, they are always helpful if needed. Couldn't recommend this practice more!
