Services
The Overton Funeral Home was founded in 1923 by Arthur "Doc" Overton in a house on Main Street across from Monell Avenue (now the site of Starbucks). Soon after, "Doc" moved his business to the John King House at 140 Main Street (near the lumber yard), where it remained for six years. In 1934, the present venue was established on the estate of contractor Charles Vivian at 172 Main Street.
Planning a funeral can be an emotionally difficult process. You're dealing with the recent departure of a loved one; if you didn't know their final wishes in terms of what sort of service they'd prefer, the process can seem daunting at the very least. At Overton Funeral Home, our compassionate and experienced team is here to help you navigate this difficult time.
Funeral pre-planning is arranging a funeral prior to the death of the person for whom it is intended. Relieving the survivors of the stress and burden of making funeral arrangements at the time of need. Making sure the funeral is exactly what the person for whom the arrangements are made wants. Protecting an individual's resources when determining eligibility for Medicaid by establishing a "Burial Fund."
The Overton Funeral Home has been assisting the families of veterans since 1923, and we know how important it is to honor the lives of those individuals who have so courageously served our country. We continue to provide exceptional service to those to come to us and will be with you every step of the way.
From the start, the Overton Funeral Home has been a community leader. Art "Doc" Overton was a founding member of the Islip Chamber of Commerce in 1923. For years, the Overton Funeral Home has made donations to countless civic organizations and endeavors, and has provided a scholarship to a graduating senior of Islip High School for over fifty years.

Engaging and working with Eric and Mike made the most difficult time in our lives bearable. Their sensitivity, professionalism, and patience made the services everything we wanted it to be. My brothers passing occurred in Texas, therefore presented a few logistical challenges along the way, given travel back to NY. The Overton team provided fantastic guidance and leveraged a strong network to facilitate transfer and in the most economical way.

Wow. I have been calling funeral homes all day for my dad’s send off and was not having any luck. Some funeral homes were so rude, not to mention the rush with this pandemic. A close friend recommended Overton.
I spoke with Sean and OMG, he was so attentive, patient and very welcoming.. he made the time to speak with me and assist me with all my questions and concerns, and did not mind the fact that I wasn’t sure what I needed, but made the time to guide me.
Thank you for your comfort!!!

Genuinely caring and understanding. Everyone helped us through a very difficult time explaining patiently the different options as well as sending us home with books and paperwork in choosing prayer cards, custom design, and arrangement of photos and personal items to be placed with our son. I can not thank them enough.
