While there are several species of ants in the Greater Seattle area, there are 3 species of ants that are most commonly a nuisance pest in Kirkland, Bellevue, Bothell, Woodinville and surrounding area: carpenter ants, pavement ants, and odorous house ants (OHAs). Carpenter ants are hard to miss - they are a large black ant, ranging up to 1 inch in length.
In nature carpenter ants nest in dead wood. They are classified as a "wood destroying organism" (WDO) and a structural risk due to the damage that they can cause to the siding, framing and other wood areas of a home. The largest ant found in Kirkland and the Greater Seattle area is the western carpenter ant.
There's two schools of thought when it comes to spiders: they are silent, creepy-crawly, hairy and scary, or you love them and see their value as nature's pest control. It's interesting to note that spiders are not insects - they are arachnids, an order that includes scorpions, ticks and mites, pseudo scorpions and others.
Often confused for honeybees, yellow jackets are quicker, smaller and have a brighter yellow color compared to bees. Yellow jackets also fly in jerky, side-to-side prior to landing. Yellow jacket wasps can strike fear in young and old, big or small. Their sting is legendary - so much so that once you've been stung once, you know to avoid these fierce insects.

After having nightmare experiences with companies that come to your door and promise unicorns and rainbows I decided to contact a local company. Jon was very responsive and transparent about his work. He was able to set up an appointment quickly and was on time. We have been working with Jon for over 2 years. He has never missed an appointment, always on time, very professional, and very nice. He listens and offers great advice. Joh has been following the covid protocols strongly, we never have to worry when he sprays inside the house. One big plus for us is how respectful Jon is, he waits until

I get Jon to remove a wasp nest under our front door eves since we are having contractor working in that area. Jon responded quickly and swung by the next day to take care of the problem - since there are people working in the area, Jon took the 2-step process, kill it on day 1 and then came a second time to remove when he is in the area. Quick and easy setup and I will definitely call Jon again for my other needs :)

I HIGHLY recommend ProGuard. The price was reasonable (by comparison), Jon is very professional, knowledgable and even came out the same day. He explained everything and what to look for for future colonies that wanted to build nests. He was very nice, and even took the nest (where other companies charge additional fees to do so). I also liked that he guaranteed his work.

Jon deserves all the glowing reviews and more! He's simply the best - I had two wasp colonies: one in my attic vent hole & another inside the exterior wall of my home (wasps are clever). I called ProGuard - Jon returned my call quickly. After treatment, the timeline of wasp eradication was "dead-on." Jon delivered on his promise.

I highly recommend ProGuard. Their prices are reasonable. Jon is very knowledgeable, and reaction time was excellent (he was able to take care of my wasp problem the same day). He was professional, explained what would happen, and even gave me safety tips and how to identify when a colony might start forming plus the different types of wasps and which are aggressive. He really knows his stuff!

We have had Jon service two houses. He’s awesome. Knowledgeable, nice and takes care of the problem, which in our situation was rats. I really appreciated his thoughtful solutions as he knew we didn’t want to spend a ton of money to fix the problem as we will be tearing down the house to build a new one. I would recommend him to anyone.

Jon replied to my inquiry within minutes and was very responsive to questions on Thumbtack (booking site). He was able to squeeze in an appointment the same day. During the appointment, he was extremely courteous and friendly. I appreciated that he took the time to explain how the extermination would work, and answered my additional questions. Furthermore, he offered a follow-up visit to do a final removal of the nest once all the yellow-jackets have died off (it is a multi-day process, as evidenced by all the dead insects that continue to fall to the ground throughout the evening and into today
