Services
The Center for Mental Health was started in 1964 by a group of individuals with a vision to provide mental health services in rural western Colorado and was one of the first mental health clinics in a rural setting to become a Mental Health Center in the entire U.S. Dr. Lynn Hopple flew his own plane to Montrose from Denver bringing with him other service providers three days per month to bring mental health services to the Western Slope.
Individual therapy allows the client an opportunity to explore and resolve personal problems in a one-to-one setting. The approach is usually intensive, brief, solutions-focused, with short-term goals, decision making, or reducing the effects of a symptom. Outcomes are based on measurable goals.

Group therapy allows clients to share their personal and interpersonal problems in a group setting where feedback can be given and received among group members.Through this process, clients have the opportunity to develop support systems, rehearse new ways to interact with others, and recognize the impact of their behavior on themselves and others.
The Center for Mental Health is a nonprofit organization providing a wide range of behavioral health care services to residents of Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel counties. Many times, the individuals who have the greatest need for behavioral healthcare, including substance use counseling services, are also the ones who have the least means to pay for that care.
The vision of The Center for Mental Health is to be the help you need when you need it. As part of this vision, we are seeking $10,000 in community funding to finish an outdoor courtyard for clients at our Crisis Walk-In Center in Montrose. Please consider donating to The Center for Mental Health's Crisis Walk-in Center Courtyard Fund.
Many times, the individuals who have the greatest need for behavioral healthcare struggle to pay for it. As a community mental health center, The Center for Mental Health is committed to providing services to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. We serve people in jails, in early childhood programs, in schools, and within our senior population.
