Carmela Winery
This is our tribute to Carmela, our paternal mother, grandmother, and family matriarch who immigrated to America from Sicily. We offer a tasting room inspired by ones in Napa and Sonoma, California, but just North of Dallas. If the big doors are open you are welcome to come in for a tasting, glass, or bottle of great wine!
Services
Carmela was our paternal mother, grandmother, and family matriarch. She was born in Sutera, Sicily in 1896. She lived a very full life. She and Norina were not allowed to enter through Ellis Island due a diphtheria outbreak there. In 2013 the Anselmo brothers move Carmela's Winery from Greenville Texas to downtown Celina.
Auto-shipping wine every other month works for a winery, but does it really work for you? We think the subscription model is broken. Everyone wants a great selection, great value, and most important a choice of when to participate. At Carmela Winery we narrow the selection to the very best wines at incredible prices.

Can’t comment on the wines. Didn’t make it past the entrance with how rude they were. I was asked what wine I like. I said Chardonnay and received an eye roll from the man. Then I said “buttery”, and was told that is not a way wine is described. So, I continued to try being friendly and said, “like Cakebread Wines.” To which the man shuttered and made a disgusted sound… because he is a sophisticated wine maker. Seriously, he was incredibly rude!! Insulting me at every answer I gave. Pretty sure you’re not making Opus One in there.

It would be nice if their hours were accurate. We drove 45 minutes to enjoy the wineries in Celina and they were closed despite their posted hours. We even called because despite the doors being locked, purses were on chairs inside. Also, ROACHES were clearly visible, stuck behind a paper flyer on their door.

Saw that they were open Thursdays until 7. Got there at 5:30 and they were closed. Didn't look very clean outside and since they were not open I can't comment on any wine.

This winery was cozy and intimate. I loved the decor and the fact that I could sit with my friends, enjoy conversation and drink wine! . The proprietor kindly explained the wines that he wanted us to taste, while he shared a bit with each of us. I disappointed that he didn't grow any grapes there, or even own any, but imported all the wines. Unfortunately none of them were my taste, I prefer the sweeter wines. But, had a great time!

I can't say enough good things about Carmela. The service is top notch and the owner knows his stuff. Everybody there is overly friendly and attentive. Our favorite wines have been the Nero D'Avola and the Sangiovese. Celina has a true treasure in Carmela.

This place was very cute and the owner is really friendly and knowledgeable.
I wasn't a fan of the fact that they don't let you choose which wines you would like to taste- it's either 2 whites/2 reds or 4 reds. I will say the reds are much better and complex than the whites.
If you do a tasting, they give you a credit on bottle purchases.

Outstanding family owned business, great story, owners usually present at business hours. Variety of wine, Red and white. Mostly dry varietals my favorite! Some from all over the globe. Great place to escape the heat and relax in the cabin/ living room style tasting area. In winter...giant fireplace. Clean restrooms!

Would you like a fine glass or bottle of French or Italian wine? Yes? Escape to CARMELA WINERY in Celina. Their wines are smooth and sophisticated and you can kick back and chill without the crowds pressing in on North Dallas. Can't believe this historic land mark allows you to bring your own food or order for delivery so you may enjoy lunch or dinner while relaxing in their comfy surroundings. Xoxo

My wife and I attended the Valentine's Dinner at the winery. They literally rolled out the red carpet for the event! The food, wine and entertainment were excellent. The staff was extremely courteous and treated us like family. I highly recommend the Valentine's dinner and look forward to attending next year!

It is a stretch to call this a winery. They don’t really grow their own grapes, their blends are from outsourced grapes, plus it is in the middle of town. Not really impressed with their French blends. Their Port is their only wine and let me tell you...it is terrible. If you are searching for great Texas wines, this is not a stop.

Drove from Plano to Celina to try out this winery that said online that they opened at 1pm on Wednesdays. After getting there and waiting 10 mins for them to open, walked in to be told they were closed for "cleaning". I said I had looked online to see if they were open first before driving out and the lady said oh we need to change that and then the man asked what we needed. I said wanted to do a tasting and maybe buy a bottle. He said yes sorry we are closed. So my 1 star is for lack of service and incorrect business hours online. Call and check hours before you drive out..

This was the worst winery I have EVER been too. Not only was the wine horrible (beware of the port) but the service was terrible. When the owner flat out tells you that he is not going to serve you his "best" wine because we were part of the Wine Trail, and then has to ask if we are happy before we leave, you know it's not a good place. Anyone that we met along the Wine Trail also had similar experiences with this winery. When you sign up to be apart of a function, it's an opportunity for you to promote your wine, but they did the exact opposite. There was no water to clean

The wines on our tour at Carmela were the worst wines I'd ever had in my life. They tasted like simple syrup. Out of 4 wines, they were all bad. There weren't buckets provided to pour the wine out. People were pouring out into the bathroom sink and in their water bottles. The atmosphere was very traditional country. The bathrooms were clean but toilets weren't flushing properly and causing them to overflow.
I asked for a different wine since I didn't like my initial pour, and the owner refused. Basically, DON'T GO HERE. This is more for people that don't know what

Don't understand the comments about the people providing a rude service. I go every month and always receive the absolute best service. They are kind, considerate, and knowledgeable. I love going to Carmela Winery.

If you have never had wine before this could be a good start. Quaint/charming location in Celina with ample seating and quick service. The wines are not Texas wines. They may be "bottled" here but they are all imported. We started with the Pinot Grigio, then the Chardonnay Blend, followed by the Montepulciano, and Tempranillo. All middle of the road wines that failed to deliver at the end. Decent beginnings and maybe the winery will continue to develop.

For my 40th birthday my mom and sister rented a large bus and took 20 or so of my friends on a wine tour. Carmela was our last stop and we had a blast! The people working were nice, the owner was funny, and the venue was perfect! Will go again, we are already planning another day of fun!

Do not have an event here. Management doesn't follow through with promises. He was walking in and out loud doors the whole wedding ceremony and even was in the middle of the aisle during our ceremony.

Nice little spot in downtown Celina run by a father and son. Great space that's recently been renovated. Always has about 3-4 offerings from the winery with an equal amount of guest selections from all over the world. Awesome service!
