Services
Enhance and promote effective State and Territorial programs and to affect relevant national policies for waste and materials management, environmentally sustainable practices, and environmental restoration. The Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials, Inc., (ASTSWMO), is an organization representing the 50 States, 5 Territories and the District of Columbia (hereinafter "Members").
The Executive Committee of the Association is comprised of the President, Vice-President, immediate Past-President, and Secretary-Treasurer. A Vice-President is elected annually from a slate of candidates by a majority vote of the State Voting Representatives. The Vice-President serves a one-year term before advancing to the role of President.
The work of ASTSWMO is carried out by hardworking, dedicated State and Territorial (State) members who volunteer in various roles within the Association. These roles include the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, Subcommittees, Task Forces/Focus Groups (TF/FG), and Workgroups. The Association strongly encourages State member participation at all levels within the organization.
In 2002, ASTSWMO instituted the ASTSWMO Lifetime Achievement Award, to recognize an outstanding individual who has worked in State government in the areas of solid and hazardous waste management, sustainability/materials management, underground storage tanks, or contaminated site clean-up.

The purpose of the award is to recognize work done on behalf of the States and in furtherance of ASTSWMO's mission to enhance and promote effective State and Territorial programs for waste and materials management, to encourage environmentally sustainable practices, and to affect relevant national waste and materials management policies.
ASTSWMO provides an excellent peer group to learn from, bounce ideas off, impact national policy and continue to grow as a professional. You will form friendships and professional relationships to last a life time. You can always call a former ASTSWMO member to ask for input or learn from their experience even once you leave state service.
