Horrible! They do a terrible job. Hire any other company. So many times they skip our building and the trash just piles up, they say they are going to and they don't. Also I just watched them empty recycling cans into the garbage truck with the rest of the garbage. I'm so glad people spend time separating it. AVOID!

Same experience as almost everyone else with previous reviews in last few months: Since Republic took over our service, we are lucky to have trash and recycling picked up once every few weeks (we pay for twice a week service). In the 6 years we used Tenleytown, we had very few issues. In the few months since Republic took over, it’s nothing but missed pickups and refusal to empty cans that have been left filled for weeks.

This company has LITERALLY made life at our condominium worse: they are deceptive and will not adhere to any contractual terms. We have been burdened by dumpsters they refused to pickup upon termination of our contract - FOR ALMOST THREE MONTHS NOW!! Adding insult to injury: they took two and left the third behind!! UNREAL. They are beyond DISGUSTING and unprofessional - no less deceptive operating under "Republic Waste" yet all containers and trucks are still identified with the Tenleytown logo.

They used to be an excellent service under the leadership of a good, caring executive, Barney Shapiro. But ever since it was purchased by Republic Services, the service has been horrible. We haven't had our recycling bin emptied in 3 weeks. And calling their customer service is a fairly useless affair and a waste of time. Before the purchase of this company by Republic, we almost never had any issues with Tenleytown during the entire 9 years of using their service. And if and when there was a question or concern, someone was there to answer the phone. Right now there is nobody to talk to. I called

I hired this company for trash removal. My god they were just so bad. They couldn't manage to deliver the correct trash bins for literally MONTHS, then they brought the wrong kind and number. They missed trash pickup several times, and when they did finally come, it was as though a rabid raccoon on PCP had savaged my building. Trash everywhere, bins left out, just chaos. My neighbors have complained four times because the trash and bins are just left on the street. Horrible horrible horrible. Just like the other reviews - the company has drastically gone down hill since the business was sold to new owners recently. We have to call multiple times a week and BEG them to pick up our trash. Even worse - they promised they would pickup by 6pm today - and of course they didn't show. Trash is now attracting rodents. We will be immediately terminating our contract and looking elsewhere. Save yourself the hassle, and stay far, far, far away from this company.

Rude unprofessional people and you get charged for services you never receive. we pay for 3 times a week service and the 2 years I been here we are lucky to get two if not one time a week then when you call they have the rudest staff ever. they put you on hold till you get tried of waiting and hang up. I would give them a minus 10 if I could!!!!!!!

I hired this company for 10 years for private trash pickup and recycling. The entire relationship consisted of inconsistent pickups, unresponsiveness to emails, and dismissive/bad attitudes if I was able to get someone on the phone. Terrible customer service and they routinely miss pick-ups for a month at a time. Employees and managers are rude and will hang up on you rather than help. What really boggles my mind is that I was told the same driver handles our trash and recycling and yet the trash does get picked up but the recycling does not. Our recycling is currently stacked up so high behind our building that residents are keeping stuff in their apartments rather than putting it outside because there's no space.

I called a few months ago to share my positive experience with Melvin and his crew but wanted to post here as well. We live in a condo complex in DC and are grateful for the work Melvin and his crew do for us several times a week. The work itself is timely, efficient, and clean.

This morning one of their vehicles sat in the middle of the alley conducting business, rather than pulling to the side as I've seen them normally do. It created a backup of 3 cars in the alley as well as a trash truck and another car on the street. As the truck exited the alley, the man riding on the back of the truck must have been having a difficult day. He was unhappy with my slow approach to pass the truck and yelled at me using expletives. Poor customer service. If Tenelytown Trash is interested in looking into the behavior, it was solid waste collection vehicle 2932.

I've been using this company since early 2014. I love supporting local companies and their service is quite good. The customer service, however, is unacceptable.
1. 2014/2016 Tenleytown 'lost' my credit card number twice, two years apart. In 2014 and 2016.
2. 2014 Tenleytown did not update my credit card on file despite being asked to via email and phone 4-5 times over a period of months. Like, where did you put it each time?

I love to support local companies and you can't get much more local than Tenleytown Trash! With political statements on their truck about DC voting rights, and lines from the founder's favorite movies, kitsch and trash go together very well.
The guys that pick up the trash are always great, on time, neat, and quiet. I've also used the company for bulk pick up and they have been affordable and efficient with that as well.
I think the best part about Tenleytown is that they actually pick up your call if you call and you can talk to a real person.

Terrible customer service. I requested a quote. After a week I called to be "greeted" with a very unenthused individual. She then send the quote. I sent a few simple questions. Followed that email up a few days later with a request for an answer. A few more days and I sent one final email.
I want to thank them for the pathetic response times as it caused me to reach out
to kmG Hauling. They could not have been nicer or more prompt in their responses. AND, they're $60/mo cheaper than Tenleytown Trash.

Our condo building has been using Tenleytown trash for over 4 years. We had absolute no issues with them... until about 3.. maybe 5 months ago.
There were one or two times where I noticed that trash had been removed from the bins and placed next to the bins but they weren't removed. Anyway, it seems that things have gotten progressively worse in the last 5 months to the point that it doesn't seem like they pick up the trash anymore. Our bins are always full.

Our condo association has had nothing but headaches & terrible service from Tenleytown Trash. Their employees take little care with the trash & recycling when they empty the totes and as result we constantly have trash and in particular glass shards strewn about in our alley.
