Rankin Motel
The 2019 season marked our 95 year anniversary of hospitality here at The Rankin! What a pleasure to welcome guests from all over the world to the cozy cabins that our grandfather built in the late 1930s. Room and cabin dcor includes quilts, vintage pictures and a few pieces of original furniture, making your stay a special stop on your journey.

Conveniently located on the south end of Ashton, Idaho, just off of Highway 20, The Rankin Motel a perfect launch point for a Yellowstone adventure! Our room was spotless. I'll say it again: spotless!
Services
As the automobile became popular, the lodging industry was born. My granddad, David K. Rankin and his brother Hugh built the Rankin Auto Court cabins along with Log Cabin Motel cabins. D.K and his wife Eva along with their five children (Margaret, Kenneth, Betty, Janis, and David) ran their farm and rented the cabins.
Year after year our regular customers return to their favorite cabins at the Rankin Motel - the perfect, peaceful spot to prepare for a fly fishing extravaganza! At the end of a challenging day of fishing the Henry's Fork, Harriman, Fall River, Robinson Creek, or the charming Warm River, nothing is more relaxing than returning home to a cozy cabin and a quiet evening on the lawn.
New to the Rankin Motel is the addition of the Rankin Farmhouse for your vacationing needs. This two bedroom one bath farmhouse has a beautiful view of the Grand Tetons. You will find a full kitchen, private drive and landscaped grounds for relaxing after your adventures into Yellowstone or Grand Teton National Park.
Nearby Yellowstone National Park is a world-class destination, and a must-see. The world's first national park, Yellowstone is a 2.2 million acre showcase of natural wonders and wild animals. A figure eight of loop roads connect the top sights, with Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake, and Grand Prismatic Spring on the Lower Loop; Mammoth Hot Springs on the Upper Loop; Yellowstone Falls near the shared section of the two.
We at the Rankin don't want to miss any opportunity to have you stay with us. Therefore, we are going to ask for cancellation fees so other visitors may be able to procure a night when others are not able to come or are unsure of their plans. We understand that emergencies do happen and will certainly do everything we can to accommodate your cancellation or re-schedule.

The owner is very nice and the room was very clean. I loved the older vibes you get from the whole town. Great little place to stop of and explore the area. Mesa falls is just down road!

We drove 400 miles for 6 hours during a very busy weekend for the national parks. This place was the only option, and we couldn’t have been happier. Fair price during the season, no gouging due to availability. Lovely little town with beautiful country. Fire pit and grill use is available. Jenny the hostess was super kind. After 12 hours of total driving on the day this is the perfect place for some rest. Thank you Jenny and thank you rankin motel, we will be back!

We loved our stay here! We were out here for a Yellowstone/Grand Teton trip and this place was the most affordable option we could find when booking relatively last minute. We stayed in a two bedroom cabin and enjoyed every second. The beds were comfortable to come back to after a long day hiking. The rooms were very clean and provided a homey environment. The owner/hostess (Jenny) was so welcoming and does a phenomenal job running the place! I highly recommend staying here

Our stay here was really pleasant. Owner Jenny was so nice & helpful. We stayed in one of the 1 bedroom cabins, very clean, surprised about the recently updated bathroom for a 90 year old cabin. Great location for jumping off on adventures in all directions because there are so many mountain destinations - Yellowstone & Tetons to name a few. We look forward to staying here again.

Run by a wonderful family since the early 20s. The updated cabins are beautiful and very clean. Pets are welcome with a small fee. There is a full grocery store next door and Main Street is a short 5 minute walk away with diners, bars and shops. Ashton-Flagg rd is a few minutes drive/ride and takes you right into Yellowstone, but it’s gravel. I will definitely be staying here again on my next trip out West. So lovely!!

This was a great place to stay. It was clean and Covid precautions were taken. Jenny was very welcoming. She took us to check out the cabin before we reserved it. The cabin was really nice inside and we had everything we needed. It is in a great location to Mesa Falls Scenic Byway and walking distance to the grocery store.

Our family of 7 (2 adults and 5 children from ages 12 to 1) stayed in the farmhouse at the Rankin Motel. It was fabulous. We really loved it. We spent most of our time at Yellowstone, but wished we could've had more time to just stay around Ashton and play around the farmhouse and relax. There was plenty of room for us, with some to spare. I was really impressed with the cleanliness. I am quite a clean person, to a fault. I felt completely comfortable here, even letting the baby crawl around on the floor. There were little details about the accommodations that I noticed they do to make their guests

We arrived in Ashton, ID to find an immaculate cabin that was quaint and clean and comfortable, it was late and the open sign was still on and we where thankful for that. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed two nights on the Yellowstone part of our trip in June. Our 6 year old grand daughter was with us and played with the owners little girl. The cabin was comfortable, nicely furnished and clean. It was close to the highway but Noise wasn't a factor to me since I live right beside a U.S. Highway. It had two bedrooms so I put Grandma and our little girl in one room and I stayed in the other. There is a store next door that serves coffee and breakfast. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed 3- days this October, 2017. We were in one of the cabins. It was furnished with a double and a queen beds. The beds had to be new. All linens where clean and of good quality. The linens where changed daily.

The space was heated by electric baseboard heating. This was more than adequate to hold comfortable room temperature when it was 21 degrees outdoors

Can't say enough about this place. Clean quiet and well managed

We have officially hop, skipped, and jumped back into the year, 1924. Rankin Motel has been operated by the same family, 3 generations and still counting. And it looks just the same or maybe even cuter.

I love their brief history write up. Originally named The Rankin Auto Court, they consist of 6 two-room cabins, several one-room cabins, plus a tiny motel unit on the back of the property. They have lovingly maintained the real feel of early 20th century auto travel but with a few modern additions like a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, flat screen tv, an electric fireplace, and baseboard

This is my first yelp review- it's such a special place, it deserves 5 stars. Stayed in a 2 room cottage before heading off to Yellowstone. We liked it so much, we were actually considering staying and driving in and out of the park. When going through the information folder in the rooms you will know what I mean. This place has been a family business since the 20's. It's like visiting distant family. We got lots of tips for Ashton and for the drive to Yellowstone to avoid road construction. Robert is great. If you want to feel some true American history for a very reasonable rate

Good value, just off highway to West Yellowstone, about an hour from park, next to a grocery store. Reasonable price, 5 stars is for value, this is not a luxury motel.

We were directed to this motel by other Yelp reviews. The motel was small, but well run. The prices were great, the rooms were clean and in good condition. We stayed 3 nights. The owner, Robert, was fantastic! He was very kind and friendly. He grew up around this area, and shared a lot about restaurants, stores, recommended places to see, and even a good mechanic. The place is about an hour outside the west entrance to Yellowstone. Next time we are out that way, we won't hesitate to stay at this motel.

We came from California through Salt Lake looking for a place to stay outside the West entrance to Yellowstone. All the places at the entrance were booked (about 200 a night) and this place we found by accident. At about 80 bucks a night (for three of us) we decided the savings in our pocket was worth the drive to the park which was a little over an hour. Bob was really great and gave us great info. We had a two room little cabin that was very clean and cozy complete with old books nice little wall heaters sinks microwaves and a small fridge. The beds were comfortable and the linens were far
