For more than 40 years, the California Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA), has trained thousands of dancers in the art of dance and performing. The students who make performing their profession have performed with many of the top professional dance companies in the US and abroad, as well as on the Broadway stage and on television and commercials.
Many have excelled in music and theater as well. Our students gain admission to the top universities and colleges in the country. The life skills that all our students learn at CAPA - commitment, dedication, teamwork, an incredible work ethic and time management - will be with them their whole lives, and the friendships they form with their dance mates last decades after they have graduated.

Services
CAPA was founded in 1981 by Joan Robinson and Ronn Guidi, then Artistic Director of the Oakland Ballet Company. They wanted to create a place in the beautiful Moraga Valley where the "children of the suburbs" could have access to the finest professional training.
Joan and Ronn realized their dream, and though Ronn soon found the demands of the Oakland Company too demanding to do both, he was confident that Joan would continue the integrity of their joint plan.

We are planning to return to our normal in-studio schedule for the 2021 -2022 School Year, subject to state and county regulations. Sign up early for your preferred classes - we are strictly limiting class sizes. Please note that we have very few Monday holidays in order to have an equal number of classes for all days of the week.
For Fall/Winter/Spring, CAPA divides the annual tuition for our 36 weeks of classes during the school year into ten equal monthly payments, which we bill to your account on or about the 15th of every month (August through May) to the credit card on file. Some months have more classes than others, but regardless of the month, you only pay for 36 weeks of actual classes in ten equal monthly installments.
We are delighted you are joining us and look forward to providing a wonderful learning experience for you or your dancer. You will quickly learn that CAPA is a special place, where students learn not just a love of dance, music & movement, but also teamwork, discipline and life skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
CAPA's Primary Division is for dancers age 3 - 6, and offers instruction in creative movement, ballet and tap. Our regular classes (7 years of age and older) are offered in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Pointe (if eligible) and Tap. This class is half tap, half creative movement/ballet, 100% fun!
The goal of this class is to provide a healthy and positive experience that stimulates a love for dance, music, and movement by introducing ballet and tap technique while also encouraging a child's free expression. This class introduces the classical ballet positions and leaps as well as the rhythm steps of tap.

My daughter and I had been a nanny to a family that has been attending CAPA Dance Academy for last 8 years.
When quite young these two girls took lessons at a dance studio in the area however, they weren't really being trained to dance , they just looked cute dancing around.
Since going to CAPA, we've seen such growth and maturity in these two now pre teen and teen aged young ladies; and as for dance, in these 8 years, they've gone from running around a dance class to absolute professional dancers.
We enjoy both the Summer Showcase and the holiday Nutcracker performance in

My daughter has been dancing at capa since she was 4 years old. She is now 13 and is very committed to dance. We have been so very grateful for the high quality instruction across many different dance area including an amazing contemporaty instuctor who is an gifted choreogqrapher, an awesome tap/hip hop instructor, a excellent ballet program with a totally committed ballet mistress and equal quality in jazz.
We were very tentative in taking all of the classes available in the early years as we are a family that didnt want to "pigeon hole" our daughter too early. Instead we encouraged

My girls have been dancing at CAPA since they we 2. The older one is about to head off to college and the younger one is entering her sophomore year. I am convinced that their achievement during high school and natural leadership ability is a direct result of their experience at CAPA. To be sure, CAPA is not for everyone. If you pander to your children and protect them from challenging, demanding and rigorous experiences then this program will be to much for you. If on the other hand your interest is to build character, toughness, and a desire to win based on personal merit alone then CAPA is a

Our daughter has been at CAPA for 10 years. What a great environment for a young girl and teaching opportunities are beyond dance. It's a very strong community of committed dancers where the older dancers nurture and mentor the younger girls. The instructors are very strong at the advanced level. CAPA promotes diverse dance training, i.e., Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop. Nutcracker performances are each December and are an annual tradition in the community. Wonderful performances by dancers of all ages.
