Spanning four generations, the Gracie name is legendary in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world! Ralph Gracie, third generational fighter, opened his first academy in 1994 and has continued to expand. The Vacaville Academy is dedicated to developing the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle for all ages and abilities. Our goal is to create a learning environment where our students develop courage, discipline, and respect.
We believe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more than martial arts. It is a tool used to grow self-awareness through body and mind. Students have also accredited other successes in life from following the Jiu-Jitsu formula. With 11 students entering competition in our first year of being opened, we have obtained 8 Gold medals along with 2 Silvers medals!

Rodrigo lopes Cardoso is a Brazilian Black Belt Jiu Jitsu, born in Brasilia/DF, Brazil in 1991. He started practicing martial arts at 15 years old with Mestre Diderot Junior. Throughout his career he has became a very decorated champion, earning many medals for his hard work.
In Brazil, Rodrigo has founded his On Life Academy where he has helped introduce Jiu Jitsu to many new students and train athletes for tournaments, including one of them becoming a World Champion!He loves challenges and is prepared for anything. Start training with us today!

The instructor is great. The techniques and skills my kids learn are excellent for self-defense. They get a lot of experience practicing what they are taught. My 13 y/o daughter and 10 y/o son attend the same class Tue & Thu 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A lot of kids of different sizes and skill levels attend, so it's good experience with changing opponents.

Before going to this gym I’d never done any sort of martial arts. My first day here everyone was friendly and welcomed me as if they had known me all their lives. Which was a great feeling especially being brand new to a sport. I fell in love with this gym from the first day. Everyone here works hard and is also willing to teach one another. The best part is no one has an ego.

From the second I walked through the doors to now, I’ve been shown nothing but kindness and respect from everyone. From the people who come to train to the instructors and admin staff, it is a place I can come to not only learn, but be encouraged and supported through the “family”. It definitely feels like a family, even for someone starting so new. The knowledge from the coaches is great and they have been so patient with me as it’s new to me! They genuinely care about what they do and treat everyone, whether new or experienced with grace.

Been an active member since June of 2020 when we re opened after a brief closure due to covid. I initially walked in thinking I was going to have my 5 year old daughter sign up. I was immediately drawn into the family like atmosphere this place exuded and what made me come back after her initial free classes was their interactions with my daughter. When she decided to try soccer instead I signed up begrudgingly and today I can say it has been one of the best choices I could have made for my sanity and for my health.

My four year-old-son and I have been training at Ralph Gracie Vacaville since April 2020. Coach Cleidson creates a safe and fun family environment for the kids and communicates well with the parents. We have been coming here since April 2019, a couple weeks after they opened their doors. We couldn’t be happier. Rodrigo is a very skilled coach and so great with his students, especially our kids. Come join us and be a part of this phenomenal school.
