I grew up in Dakota County, where I attended Rosemount public schools. I received my education in the State of California where I practiced for two decades before returning to Minnesota where I enjoy a large extended family. I have served as a mediator, arbitrator, and Pro Tem Judge. I have extensive trial experience, and have tried more than fifty jury trials.
Mediation can have two meanings in a family law proceeding, and if so each will affect your case in a different way. The first meaning refers to an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process, where both you and your spouse meet with a single attorney who serves as a mediator. The mediator's job is to assist both parties in reaching a mutual agreement on all issues.
It is not unusual to take on a case, and then as it evolves, discover that the issues are more complex than you feel competent to handle. In those situations, the rules of professional content - as well as your malpractice carrier - require that you so inform your client and address the issue. I am attorney Diane Kaer, with more than 35 years of family law experience in California and more recently in Minnesota, I can help.
Child support is established using a mathematical formula created by the Minnesota Legislature. The formula is computerized; various numbers are plugged into the program, and a number is determined that considers all of the relevant factors. This issue is largely factual in nature, and the amount paid or received is established by a set formula.

Diane is amazing! She has been more than an attorney she has been a friend and has helped me rebuild my life after a horribly abusive 8 year marriage. She is extremely knowledgeable about domestic violence cases and custody issues. This lady will fight for you! I would recommend her to absolutely everyone

Tries to strongarm her way through situations rather than be diplomatic and transparent. She was over an hour late for court which was very unprofessional for all concerned parties, no matter who she is representing.
Note per Diane's reply: My review applies directly to your behavior in my experience with the way you conducted yourself as a paid professional.

Would NOT recommend Diane Kaer. She talks big when you first meet her, but then she gets in the court room and acts like a scared little school girl talking to the judge, struggling to speak and appear knowledgeable. Didn't appear prepared at all. She is not a personable atty that you can have an effective conversation with; she cuts you off mid sentence alot. We figured if she was this rude to us as clients she would be strong and rude to shut down the other atty. WRONG! The other atty walked all over her because she wasn't prepared and didn't listen to us enough to get the history of our case
