The word carat derives from the word carob, a Mediterranean seed, which has an extremely consistent weight for measuring. The greater the carat weight, the rarer, and more valuable the diamond becomes. Five metric carats weighs exactly 1 gram. Some people want the largest diamond possible.

I always go here, but today will be my last time using their services. I brought in my engagement ring, wedding band which is soldered together. Along with a bracelet which I asked for an extra security clasp to be added on to it along with a necklace. All items I wanted appraised. I was told the rings would be priced separately, so 4 appraisals with a clasp charge $576. Which sounded a little excessive but figured I always go here so this must be the best price they can give me. I get a call later where they wanted to charge an additional 150 because the detail of my bracelet and necklace. Ridiculous

I have worked with Ken Sutts before and he has always been very helpful. I bought a 14k gold chain for my husband from Ken, there was a slight problem, but Ken helped me and issue was solved to my satisfaction. He always gives his undivided attention even if I can’t make up my mind. I would give this a 10 star rating if I could. Love Jewelry by Designs, I never have to worry about the quality of the items, and the people are the best.

So these type of stores just don’t exist anymore. People who actually remember your name and face. Who won’t charge you unnecessary amounts just so they can make a buck off of you. I rarely write reviews because honestly I just don’t have the time… or I say I will and then forget to… but because I know these stores are facing competitors like online jewelry places, or the typical jewelry company like Kay’s or Zales I thought maybe a review could help guide people who actually wanted a live person experience instead of someone just being a salesperson. Outstanding customer service! My son used their service to fix the spring in his gold chain's clasp. Shortly after picking the item up, we noticed a slight dent and brought it to their attention. The Jeweler went out of their way to ensure we received the best service and even exceeded our expectations by fixing one of the pre-existing, very weak links on my son's chain. We are beyond satisfied and would recommend this location!

I am so sorry to hear that they are closing after 30 years, but I understand retirement awaits. My husband and I were customers for 15+ years and always received great service. We went there for repairs and gift purchases, never hesitating that we would receive honest, quality work. This type of business is a dying breed with all of the chain jewelry retailers nearby. This is a store with not just quality products, but also an incredibly helpful staff, and a heart for caring for the community. I continue to be impressed by them each time I visit. Today they not only helped resize my rings, they also helped with the prongs holding my stone in place which I hadn't realized were gone, and went above and beyond to keep the engraving inside my ring which was special to me. They even got this all done in just a few hours. I couldn't be happier. Thanks to Ken and the staff.

If I could leave one star I would. My Fiancée and I stopped in today shopping for wedding rings. After not being greeted and walking around for several minutes I finally got the attention of an associate. Unfortunately they were not very concerned about helping us and said maybe someone in the back could help us. We walked around for at least 10 minutes to no avail. (I even ain't a piece of St Paddy's cake while we were there). While I saw some men's wedding bands Their watch selection was terrible (if you can even call no name brands and Invicta watches). My husband purchased a Pandora charm for our anniversary it was one I already had so I went in with a receipt and the charm and they wouldn't even exchange it bc of some sale they are having. Will never be patronizing this business again. The owners comment that they provided notification that there's no refunds or exchanges however that's if you purchased during their liquidation. My husband purchased prior to their liquidation but WITHIN their standard return/exchange timeframe per the recipient. Any good business would have at the least honored an exchange given the item was purchased

This place is amazing. I went to have my ring redesigned with stones from my mother and my grandmother who both passed. Ken was amazing and super patient and professional. I had my kids with me and even when they were getting bored he chatted with them and never got frustrated. I got my ring back today and LOVE IT! It is just how I wanted! I also purchased a ring for my daughter and had a stone replaced in another ring! I will definitely be going back!

Jon Caro had designed my mom's wedding ring, which I always loved. The wedding band was beautifully wrapped around my mom's engagement ring. My husband and I went to Jon with a very specific vision for our wedding bands hoping he would be able to make them, and he did. Jon is the most talented and skilled jeweler we know. My husband's band is a white gold band with reverse beading around the center which is filled with blue ceramic. My band consists of two bands designed to look as though they are wrapped around her engagement ring and the bands are filled with blue sapphires. Thank

I don't know a lot about jewelry but I do know what good personal service is and this store has it. I had a pair of earrings special made for my wife. The store brought in sapphires from Montana, where she is from to make them memorable for her. They came out beautifully. On another instance, I changed my mind about an order and they were absolutely accommodating. Ask for Dan and he will provide excellent service.

I've been shopping at JBD since I was ~17 (23 now) primarily because my mother has several pieces of jewelry from them. I mainly shop at JBD for their Pandora and Alex and Ani selection, I also have two rings and several pairs of earrings from JBD. Being "so young" and usually dressed fairly casual, I must say, customer service is so horrible that I hate going to JBD. Rarely am I ever greeted let alone asked if I need any help until I look like I need it.

My fiancé and I have been to many jewelry stores in the area as well as family owned ones too. My fiancé and I arrived and it was a great feeling. Lynn is awesome. Came here to shop for engagement rings. I had done a lot of homework on line, but still knew next to nothing in terms of real look or feel. I had been searching for a special ring for my wife and was unsuccessful finding something that fully met my expectations. I walked into Jewelry by Designs and was met by Ken Stutts, a true professional. He sold me a Hearts on Fire diamond solitaire ring and was very knowledgable about them and other jewelry. It is rare to find this kind of customer service here in northern Virginia. I highly recommend Jewelry by Designs and Ken. Ask for him when you go there.
