Decades of experience, understanding, and results in family law, civil litigation, and serious injury cases. An AV-Preeminent* rated attorney since 1996, meaning that other attorneys and judges gave James W. Lea the highest rating offered. Other popular legal ranking websites agree. Ryan's background in corporate investigations helps him find and track assets, useful in high-asset divorce, business valuations and commercial disputes.
If you are facing a complex divorce, legal separation or other family law issue, it is vital to have an attorney who understands the challenges involved - legally, financially and emotionally. At this difficult time in your life, your relationship with your lawyer can be one of the most important. Experience tells us that these strong relationships lead to more favorable outcomes.
Alimony, also known as spousal support, is not awarded in every divorce. The decision to grant alimony is determined by examining several factors, including length of the marriage and earning capacity of each spouse. In North Carolina, the award of denial of alimony varies wildly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, it is important you work with someone who knows the courtroom.
If you have children, custody and visitation arrangements can be the most important decisions you and your spouse make during a divorce. Because of their importance, and due to the emotions involved, they also can cause a great deal of disagreement. In these circumstances, a skilled lawyer can provide much needed advice and counsel.
Child support is a monthly allowance that noncustodial parents pay to help cover the living expenses of their children. Although it is possible for parents to agree upon child support payments, often the help of a knowledgeable lawyer is needed to finalize the exact terms, help to resolve disputes or work to enforce court orders.

Going thru a divorce is never easy nor smooth… initially was with another firm and that was a HUGE mistake! Was referred to Ryan Schultz and could not be happier! Very attentive to my needs and concerns… took the reigns and got me more in my settlement than I had anticipated.

Ryan Shultz is BY FAR the most buttoned up domestic attorney in New Hanover County. Family court is emotional and it can be a nightmare. Ryan navigates the process better than anyone I've worked w/prior. No one knows the ins and outs better. If you're a parent dealing w/a painful divorce and/or child custody issue, I HIGHLY recommend you hire Ryan and let him walk you through it.

It has taken me a while to get my thoughts on how best to write a review for a situation that was less than pleasant. I consulted with a couple of attorneys in the summer of 2016, when divorce reared its ugly head into my life. I instantly felt comfortable with Ryan. He was down to earth, and seemed to “understand” where I was coming from. I know that attorneys do try to “sell” their services by agreeing with you and telling you that they will be the best and get you everything you want in a divorce situation, but this simply isn’t true. Ryan didn’t over promise. The very first consultation

After doing my research, I ended up choosing this law firm to handle my divorce. Paige was straight forward and honest during the phone interview. Upon receiving my one time payment of the full retainer, she was unable to be reached for weeks on end. Once I finally received my refund it could only be given in $500 increments per month. Multiple individuals in the firm do not respond to phone calls or emails in a timely manner.

I found Ryan through the internet as I needed a lawyer in Wilmington. I paid $200 for a phone consultation. After speaking with him, I liked his confidence and style so I paid $2300 on a $5000 retainer. After I received his contract via email which I didn't sign, it stated that the $5000 retainer was non-refundable even if we resolved the issue quickly. I didn't feel like I needed to pay someone extra money for services that didn't balance out the pay. After finding another lawyer to handle the case three days later, I asked for my $2300 to be refunded to me. Ryan stated that his law firm only
