Buying a marine survey is buying peace of mind. It will give you a better idea of exactly what you are getting into with your boat purchase. It will help you learn what will be necessary to maintain the vessel in the future to keep you and your family safe and your investment secure. With over 270 marine surveys per year shows the demand by owners & insurance companies for industry leader Ed Cozzi.

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is a non-profit, member organization that develops voluntary global safety standards for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of recreational boats. ABYC also has a long-established commitment to providing technical education, training, certification and professional development.
Services
Your offer on the vessel of your choice should be made subject to: Survey, Sea Trial and ability to secure insurance and financing. When a date for the inspection has been determined, it is your brokers responsibility to make arrangements for the boat to be hauled out for the inspection. The surveyor will outline any particular requirements, such as the removal of non-essential equipment which might limit the inspection.
In 1992, I was captain for Roger King, (King World Productions), and I had the privilege to meet Oprah and Stedman and take them out for the day on Roger's 47' Fountain Sport Cruiser. After some coaxing we talked Oprah into driving while I throttled. She drove 77 MPH out in the open ocean! She is a remarkable woman and Stedman is cool personified.
The following is a compilation of some deficiencies I have found in the course of my surveys. In your pre-survey inspection YOU may spot things like this and better understand what's happening. This damage was found in a high performance boat. After some detective work it was learned that the transporter had damaged this boat while loading.

Our user-friendly format is the best in the industry. We do not deliver a copious report in small print that nobody is inspired to read or understand. We do not feel that a 39 page report that includes "the history of boating" or "the history of surveying" or my autobiography is in YOUR best interest.

I've used the services of Ed Cozzi at Performance Marine Surveyors to survey various boats that I have owned for the past 10+ years. He's professional, knowledgeable and very thorough. He shows up as scheduled and sends the report the next day. Very happy with his service and I would highly recommend him.

I hired them for their services on my behalf and had to beg for a survey report days after the survey was done and payment was accepted. The report gave a two thumbs and up on the vessel I was purchasing and that she ran very well. However after talking with the original owner who was present there was no sea trial performed on the vessel. When I recieved the vessel a week later we found there to be over 45 gallons of water int he fuel system and both fuel pumps shot, impellers shot, and one oil pump shot. DO your research before hiring. An honest survey on my boat would have saved me $7500 in

Talk about service after the sale...Ed notified me of a recall on the outboards on the boat he surveyed for me MONTHS after the survey was done. Finally, somebody in this industry that actually CARES about his customers long after the money has changed hands. Keep up the good work, Ed. You will always be successful with your attitude.
