Maui High School opened in 1913 in the community of Hamakuapoko, which is located in the northeast sector of Maui. Maui High School was the first academic co-educational public high school on the island with an initial enrollment of sixteen students. At the time, over 60% of the school's student body traveled from the northeast sector, a predominantly agricultural and rural community.
The accreditation process validates and certifies the integrity of a school's program and student transcripts. The school's purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program. Accreditation fosters improvement of the school's programs and operations to support student learning.
What is AVID? AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through higher education that is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research-based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
Schools play a critical role in providing students a safe learning space for social connections and cognitive and personal development. For the school year 2021-2022 all Hawaii schools will be open for daily, in-person learning. However, the Baldwin-Kekaulike-Maui Complex will provide a distance learning option provided by the HIDOE.
Earning a drivers license is a true sign of independence and responsibility. In order to achieve this life benchmark it will require true dedication. Working with professionally trained instructors in both the classroom and while behind the wheel Maui High can provide the means to become an independent young adult.
