Dr. Sugino is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon specializing in comprehensive reconstruction of the foot and ankle. She is board certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery. Dr. Sugino advanced her surgical and clinical training by completing an additional year of fellowship at the Newport Advanced Foot & Ankle Fellowship in Newport Beach, CA.
The cause of arthritis is unknown, but treatment is available. Arthritis can affect all of the joints in the body, although the feet and ankles are often affected first. Arthritis can be an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks certain parts of the body, usually after some kind of trigger or injury takes place.
A bunion is commonly regarded as a hard bump on the side of the big toe. However, it is actually a deformity that begins as an unstable joint at the base of the toe. It is caused by a shifting position of the first metatarsal that results in the big toe leaning in and crowding the other toes while the joint at the side of the big toe juts outward to form the bunion.

Doctor Sugino is a fantastic, spent lots of time explaining the problem, and the solution.
Office staff is less than stellar, I was given bad information, then they were unwilling to stand behind what was said. They also failed to return my call, and acted as if I didn't leave a message.
When I called to explain my disappointment, the office manager spent more time trying react to what she thought I was saying, than listening to my true complaint.

This is not true! I was barely able to walk due to intense pain and swelling in my right foot/big toe. I waited outside before they opened and asked if they could see me, even offering to just wait there until someone could
