When you head out camping, the last thing on your mind is probably rules. However, campground rules are important and necessary so that your pleasant camping experience can stay as pleasant as possible. Remember that campgrounds rules aren't meant to be limiting, but rather meant to make the experience better for all guests.

This campground has less than stellar roads leading into it and it's wedged in between two mobile home parks. The whole facility (at least on the side we were on) is just gravel. There are lots of trees which we normally appreciate but these are more about making turns a little challenging than shade. We're not too picky but especially for the high price, we won't be back. As a comparison, most KOA stopover type places are this good or better for half the $$.

We stayed here over Christmas and it was perfect. The bathrooms were immaculate, our spots hookups were in great working order and the spot nice. We were able to spend a lot of time on the pier which had a picnic table, and saw an eagle on several occasions. It was a great weekend and would not hesitate to stay again.

Loved this beautiful campground! We stopped for the night on our way home from Oklahoma to Ohio. The staff was very friendly. The campground was beautiful. We were with friends with a motorhome. Our two camp spots were by a lovely lake. Since it was fall, the trees were in full color. Gorgeous! The campground was super clean. The ladies restroom and showers also extremely clean. Large laundry room available. The laundry room also had a large sink for cleaning grill grates etc. Loved that each site had a picnic table and fire ring. The campground sold firewood. We enjoyed the campground so much

We stayed there twice on this trip: once in late September while driving east, then two weeks later while driving back west. Both visits were very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The park is nicely forested with a beautiful lake. The WiFi actually worked well, which is rare for most parks in our experience. The nightly lounge for drinks and games was a nice surprise. Stayed in our travel trailer. The only negative was that we needed to do laundry both visits and 2 of 3 of their washing machines were not usable both visits.

This is a wonderful campground. The lake is beautiful and the people who work there are outstanding. Jennifer was especially helpful. We are a camping club and she went out of her way to make sure our visit was good. All sites are pull through and FHU. Easy on and off the interstates. Even though it was close to interstate, we were not bothered by the noise. We will definitely put this Camp Lakewood on our list to visit again.

From the time we pulled in, to the time we left everything was a perfect 10. Bathroom's were very clean, store had a mice selection, campsites were large and clean. Grounds were very clean, lots of friendly campers. Effingham has a great walking trail, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The only negative of the whole weekend was the rain, Saturday evening and Sunday.
This was my wife's 1st camping trip, and our 1st camping trip in our new camper. It was a wonderful experience. Than we went home and watched the Bears, and the Hawks get slaughtered.
Will definitely go again, and highly recommend this

We had such a great time! Labor Day weekend, was almost completely full, but we had some great people around us. The playground was great and filled with other kids to make friends with. Great place for dogs, facilities were great! Lake was good size and caught a few fish. Super close to Walmart, and the manager was so helpful! I forgot foil and she just gave me some from their stock! We will definitely be visiting the other locations! Thanks so much Camp Lakewood! Well worth the money.

Beautiful campground. I really enjoyed our restorative stay. Very much a travel park with lots of newcomers in and out, but still some long term campers. Gorgeous lake, quiet, and clean. Grass for dogs, clean laundry room, and restrooms. We loved having a drink or two at the lounge (Thursday - Saturday). Overall it was an amazing time and we met many cool people. Would stay again!

I love this place so quiet, beautiful lake and the tent camping was great had fire ring to contain my fire. Dock to go fishing off of and also the small shore line near the boat launch. Very peaceful and relaxing, I was able to do a reset for my life away from the busy hectic city of Chicago just a short 3 and a half hour drive. I love this place. There are more RV spots than tent spots. Great all around campground store has almost everything you need. The people running the store very friendly and extra helpful.
