I completed my undergraduate work at UCLA with a degree in psychobiology. I then graduated from UCSD School of Medicine. I finished my residency at the UCDavis affiliated family practice residency program in Merced, California. My wife Katharina Scharruhn, MD and I opened our family practice office in Placerville in 1993.
Barb is one of our amazing Nurse Practitioners and has been with Dr. Barley for twenty years. She is incredibly knowledgeable, caring and so much fun to work with! I received my AA in Occupational Science and my CMA/Phlebotomy Degree through the State of California. I am a certified MA. I am currently attending Folsom Lake College to complete my pre-nursing requirements and plan to transfer to a local program.
Athenahealth is a of cloud-based practice management company that provides electronic health record (EHR) systems for small to medium-sized physician practices. We have partnered with them to give you the best medical care possible. This portal will allow you to review and confirm appointments, view and update your demographics, view laboratory results, request appointments and make refill requests to the office.

The best family physician ever! For almost 30 years he was my primary care physician. He is more than that, his ability to integrate modern medical practice with wholistic nutritional care is like none other I have had in my entire 77 yrs. Moving to Oregon 5 years ago 'made mine and my now deceased spouses great loss. Anyone who has the privilege of being under his care is very fortunate indeed.
