Precision Eye Care
Our team relies on advanced technology, international education, and continuous innovation to treat simple and complex eye diseases. We are a collaborative team with ophthalmologists and institutions around the world performing research, developing surgical techniques, and educating eye care providers.

Before Dr. Romero performed a very successful cataract surgery on me, I had been wearing glasses for over 30 years. Through out my career as a professional photographer, wearing glasses while. Dr. Romero is a rare find! I cannot say enough good things about her expertise, care, concern and professionalism.
Services
Precision Eye Care was founded and inspired by a health care model in which a personalized and customized approach meets high quality and innovation. Precision Eye Care acquired Glaucoma Experts, a practice established in 1979 by Dr. Alan L. Robin who provided compassionate and excellent care to the residents of the Mid-Atlantic states and also served as an international center for research in the fields of glaucoma and cataract.
Our mission is to remain on the forefront of scientific advancements that improve patient's vision and lives. We are actively recruiting patients for these studies in affiliation with Johns Hopkins University, University of North Carolina and University of California Los Angeles. A large study on a Veterans Administration population had shown that patients with chronic pain syndromes tend to have associated ocular pain (PMID 29392243).
Living with poor vision due to cataracts and relying on corrective glasses or contact lenses is not the optimal lifestyle for many people. Cataract treatment makes seeing clearly, looking your best, and experiencing life to the fullest an attainable reality. Over a million cataract surgeries are performed every day around the world.
Imagine waking up in the morning and clearly seeing your surroundings without glasses or contact lenses. Imagine sitting down to your computer and answering emails without first searching for your reading glasses. Many people achieve clear vision through LASIK surgery, but what can be done for patients who are not good candidates for LASIK?
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that can damage the optic nerve, resulting in vision loss and blindness. Glaucoma is commonly described as a build-up of pressure in the eye. Although there is no cure, glaucoma can be effectively managed through treatment if it is caught early during routine eye exams.

Everything was going well until I met with Dr. Romero herself. From the moment she walked in the room something was off. She burst in, eyes glazed over, avoiding eye contact, immediately launching into a short monologue of "hello, how are you, etc" without waiting for nor expecting a response. I was slightly taken aback, but thought whatever.

Then, when she sits down and asks me why I'm there, she interrupts me multiple times while I'm speaking, trying to predict the end of my sentences. Yet another bad sign. When she stands over me to put eye drops in my eyes, she is so rough

I usually do not write reviews of anything or anyone, but I had to write this one.
Straight to the point, Dr. Maria S. Romero is a gifted eye surgeon with an extraordinary level of compassion, understanding, patient care and concern.
I have been under Dr. Romero’s care for almost three years. After my personal pushback and hesitance for almost as long, Dr. Romero recently performed cataract surgery, lens implants, and stent implants (for glaucoma) in both of my eyes. Assisted by the awesome staff of Dulaney Eye Institute, the process was smooth, highly professional, and patient sensitive.

The attention from the staff is very good, I had cataract surgery in both eyes with special implants to correct astigmatism a year ago. I did not have any complications and I don't need glasses for everyday vision. Dr Romero explained the procedure and all the follow up in detail and she is very patient.

The staff techs and intake crew are phenomenal. But as for a patient doctor experience I have never been made to feel so insignificant unimportant and like just another insurance claim in my life. A person should never be made to feel that way. Not one encounter every time I visited I spent most of my visit with staff the 5 minutes of attention given to my eyes by the doctor were the worse. All patients should feel welcome and like their issues or concerns can be addressed by the person getting paid to perform a service. The rest of the team at Rotunda ROCKS. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE to this

My dad had cataract surgery on both eyes, and it turned out great! Dr. Maria Romero has always been patient and understanding throughout the entire process. He personally did not experience any side effects and is able to see clearly now. It has been over a few months since he has had it done and he has had no complaints since. Staff has been wonderful and followups have been great.

Dr. Romero performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes. I can't begin to tell you how wonderful she is. The surgery went extremely well and now I have perfect vision. Dr. Romero's professionalism and skill are second to none. She implanted multifocal lens in each eye. I had no idea what I was missing until after the surgery. It has opened up a whole new world to me. My visual acuity has improved to the point where my golf game is better. I can see things at a distance that I could never see before, even with my glasses. I have no trouble reading things up close. This was a big win for me. It

Dr Romero is such an amazing doctor. My mom had an spectacular experience, she was always terrified to touch or go anywhere near her eyes and she was wearing glasses since she was in second grade. When we went in for her consultation they made her feel at easy and reassure us with the whole process, various options of implants, what eye to do first, etc. The actual procedure went very smoothly and her vision is crystal clear now. It was life changing for her and for me because I know how much she enjoys reading . So grateful !

Beware! No bedside manner at all.

I'm reading all of these positive reviews about Dr. Maria Romero being patient, kind etc and I had the complete opposite experience.

Imagine meeting the Dr. for the first time who never actually says "hello" when she enters and begins the exam. She then tells me that I might have glaucoma and plays three videos for me to watch to learn about it.

She follows up with "Is this clear?" I say ," Yes if this is a factory".. She then sits down in a huff and says, "What are your questions?"

I have never felt so disrespected

Let's talk cost: I was billed $410 for the exam. That's twice the national average of $200 for a new prescription. For years I have paid sixty-five to eighty dollars for the same service. Sure they are organized here in the Rotunda. But no more organized than any other eye exam provider I've had the pleasure of using. PEC is off my list of return businesses.

My experience with Dr. Romero was not a good one. I had cataract surgery on both eyes. The surgery on my right eye was fantastic, but the surgery on the left eye did not go well.
I told Dr. Romero the day after the operation that I felt like I did when I had the wrong eyeglass prescription. I met with her seven times between December 2019 and May 2020. Twice she scolded me and said I was just allowing stress to get to me. She made no effort to determine the cause of my problem, and she didn't remember what she said from one appointment to the next.
I last saw her on May 26, 2020, when she
