Brainspotting is a powerful brain/body focused therapeutic tool that works by identifying, locating and releasing unprocessed trauma. It is a fairly new type of therapy but has already helped many in their healing journey. Unprocessed trauma not only affects us emotionally but has an impact on our physical being and overall health and wellness.
We believe that love is a choice. Maintaining a healthy marriage and feeling mutual respect, love and trust for each other requires effort and can even be an enormous challenge. It is common for problems to arise in a relationship after the initial romance wears off, or anytime thereafter during times of stress.
The focus of couples therapy is to build intimacy between partners. The end goal of which is that both partners share enjoyable sexual experiences which feed and nourish their relationship. While sex may not be the most important component of the marriage, it is a significant part for most couples.
The client registration packet is available here to download and print, or to just read ahead of time so you know what to expect. The completed packet can be brought in on the first visit. If you are not able to complete the packet ahead of time, please come 15-25 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.
We accept and bill most insurance companies. We will file claims to your insurance provider. Regardless whether or not your insurance pays, you are ultimately responsible for the cost of your therapy. If you have Tri-Care, they do not require preauthorization for nonactive duty military beneficiaries and dependents.

Just had an appointment with Dave Bates, in which he told me he preferred not to use "traditional" counseling methods because he didn't want to hear me talk about the same thing for two years. Instead he wanted me to try brainspotting, which has its own quackwatch page, and is an off-shoot of EMDR, which also has its own quackwatch page. It was also created by a man who went to a diploma mill for his PhD.
Dave promised that in one to two sessions, he'd be able to Cure my trauma, and that all I had to do was practice triggering myself so that we could "locate the trauma spot on my visual radar

I’m a little upset with this place- 1 the receptionist (new one) is terribly rude and never gets messages to counselors. I’ve reached out to this place after my insurance changed and either the counselors refuse to see me or the receptionist is bad at relaying messages. Either way- one of the therapist really made me feel bad after I talked abt some financial problems and then him reprimand me for paying as if he was worried abt the pay. Then once my insurance changed he wanted nothing to do with me. I even offered to pay out of pocket. It’s frustrating to get to the mindset of wanting help

They did not send information to us after sessions. When we stopped going there was no follow up.

I cannot say enough about Clearwater Counseling. I used Google to search for a marriage counselor for myself and my husband and Dave from Clearwater returned my call and setup an appointment. He was very friendly and my husband and I both benefited greatly from the therapy sessions we received over a two year period. I highly recommend Clearwater Counseling to anyone struggling with relationship issues.

This counselor is amazing!!! It's because of him, that my husband and I were able to get past a traumatic experience and continue in our marriage. We have now been married for almost sixteen years!!!! I first saw Dave for the first time almost 13 years ago. I experienced great internal positive change very quickly. Even my family noticed! Since then I have moved away from Alaska, and insurance will not cover a therapist out of network. But every time I find myself in a compromising situation and in need of guidance, Dave never hesitates to give me the time of day at whatever rate I can afford
