We provide refurbished medical equipment to individuals who cannot affordthe items they need or are faced with gaps in their insurance coverage. When Ethan started his job at the zoo, the pathways were difficult for him to navigate while walking and the length of the zoo itself made it difficult for Ethan to get around.
Ethan needed a power chair to be able to efficiently do his job. However, getting a power chair through Medicaid could take several months. Ethan's friends and coworkers knew that for Ethan to be able to stay at the job he loved, he couldn't wait that long so they reached out to Project MEND. We were able to help Ethan right away.

Services
For over 28 years, Project MEND has a rich history rooted deep in San Antonio. Founded in 1992 by Murlin Johnson (1936-2007) and formally incorporated in 1993 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Project MEND, also known as the "Medical Equipment Network for those with Disabilities, " has been providing for the home medical equipment and assistive technology needs of persons with disabilities in San Antonio and around Texas.
For over 27 years, Project MEND has provided professionally refurbished and sanitized medical equipment and other assistive technology items to individuals of all ages who are living with a disability and/or illness in South Texas. We complete our impactful mission through three service provisions: Medical Equipment Reuse, Assistive Technology Financial Aid and Medical Equipment Repairs.
Your support of our mission is critical. Your support can be a financial gift, a donation of gently used medical equipment, or a donation of your time as a volunteer. Your gift in any form makes medical equipment reusable and available for those in need. Please view the list of items we accept below.
Volunteers are needed to help clean, professionally sanitize, and organize donations of medical equipment. Join us for a few hours of fun, hard work, and leave with a sense of accomplishment as we help those in need! Project MEND reserves the 2nd Saturday of every month (check calendar for date changes) to host a Volunteer Day at the Project MEND Warehouse (1111 Austin St., San Antonio, TX 78208).
The United Way in San Antonio provides a 211 helpline for callers to receive free assistance and referrals to health and wellness programs across the area. They also offer education assistance and programs for children and young families.
