Funke's Greenhses
If you do Facebook we have an active and interesting page with great gardening posts and occasional friends and followers of Funke's freebies and specials. We are a seasonal business and selection is at peak during the prime planting season of early May. Want to see why avid gourmet gardeners have been driving as far as 300 miles to shop our spring selection?

Come check us out for the spring 2021 planting season which is sure to be our most amazing yet. Doing our best to upstage the previous year's selection continues to snowball. Pretty much wherever your tribe came from on the planet we have ethnic vegetable and herb plants from your ancestral homeland.
Services
Funke's is a family owned and operated greenhouse business with it's roots deep in the rich history of Spring Grove villiage. When the Funkes first settled here this region was one of the outlying areas surrounding Cincinnati that fed the city with fresh produce. After downsizing drasticly in 2008, due primarily to consumer reaction to weather events beyond our control, we are only open to the public from Mid March through June.
I've always been proud to teach any who are willing to learn, useful gardening information. Which is why there's so much of it here on the site. My goal is simply to try to make the world a little better, one garden, one gardener, at a time. For many years we provided professional landscape services during the summer and fall seasons.
We stock a very nice eclectic selection of flowers, and few really nice reasonably priced shrubs, but our "claim to fame" if you will, for the spring planting season is the absolutely INSANE selection of VEGETABLE AND HERB plants. Tomatoes, peppers, heirloom squash, eggplant, okra, etc. all set up in displays that are as easy and fun to shop as any fancy seed catalog.
Welcome to our video page featuring great how-to videos to help get the most out of your garden with the least amount of input and followup maintainance. This section as with most things in life is a work in progress. The later episodes from #5 and up on our youtube channel have considerably more "polish" than some of the earlier epsiodes shown here.
This is a pictorial walk through of the process for some video of this technique go to the Video page. This section of the site has two features, the first is a step by step bed installation, and the second are some examples of established beds installed several years ago here on our site. The success of those beds prompted this step by step demonstration to teach others how to get these incredible results with very little effort.

My lady and I have passed by this place countless times on our way to A.J. Rahn and were always curious to stop by. My personal curiosity peaked after speaking to a co-worker about the place and she described it was, "The dive bar of greenhouses." She also said they have lots of different peppers, which is perfect, because that's what I was looking for, though I already knew it's late in the season so selection may be sparse at best. Even with that said, I was VERY impressed with the selection I found, not just of peppers, but of everything.
The place itself looks very old school

We heard nothing but great things on Funke's Greenhouse. My Mr wanted to get more peppers and AJ Rahns was out until next springtime. So our next option was Funke's Wow! Talk about nostalgia and selection of veggies and herbs! Could you imagine what this place looks like come spring? Around August they still have a good selection to choose from. This is definitely a mom and pop nursery with a lot of history. Old school decor (especially the check out counter) lots of garden tips and pictures of their family.
Warning before you shop. They do take credit card but it's a $20.00

Incredible selections of just about everything! Al is super knowledgeable and more than willing to give advise on how you can better ready your garden for the season with little tips and tricks he's learned on the way. Ive been to quite a few nurseries and greenhouses through the years buying seedlings to add to the garden and Funkes by far has the most variety of tomatoes and peppers that I've seen around! Each year I've seen new hot peppers there that I love planting and trying out. This place is an amazing spot to shop for people the novice and expert alike and the prices are

Eh the place was empty as far as plants go. Couple interesting varieties of things that they did have like multiple carrots lettuce and basil. They have a $20minimum for cc. And i was 0.10 short and she was not pleasant on a solution other than buy more. I was ready to walk and she was fine with that, but my partner ended up paying out of his wallet. Wouldn't recommend. It seems like they are on the way to bankruptcy or closing anyhow.

Worth the drive. They have the best selection garden plants in the Cincinnati Metro Area. Particularly, if you love chili peppers or tomatoes, this is the place to go.

I am so lucky to live so close by the this place. Every town needs a garden place like this. It has all sorts of hard to find veggies & plants. Don't judge the appearance of this place from the street. It is full of amazing treasures. I look forward to every May to shop here for my organic vegetable garden.

This small mom-and-pop operation has obviously had better days however the amazing selection of vegetables and herbs makes this place they must stop every season. It is best to get there early in the season as they tend to run out popular varieties and I'd also suggest going with a list or you will get lost.

This place is aweosme if you are looking for a variety of tomatoes and peppers. Be prepared to be overwhelmed- my advice is to come in with a list from the website of what you want. Otherwise it's a free for all. The tomatoes and peppers are in alphabetical order, which really helps. They also had a large selection of herbs, veggies and other fruits to choose from. They even had raspberry, blackberry and grape bushes! A pretty basic selction of flowers as well .The owner was really nice and extremely helpful. I will absolutely be back again.

This opinion is going to be mainly subjective, because I don't know very much about greenhouses, horticulture, or anything of that like. My knowledge amounts to knowing you need to water the plant, keep it in the sun, put plastic bags over shoots I'm the event of a freeze, and not to litter.

Thankfully, the husband is much more adroit and this stuff and dragged me along on a Sunday afternoon to pick out potted herbs and seeds.

I 'think', to the best of my scant knowledge, that it is well-kept and has a good variety. I can't say much about the prices either, because
