Right around the end of 1996, an optical friend said to me "Hey, you're one hip chick, why don't you open your own shop?" With that prophetic question, my New Year's resolution was born. I am not interested in blending in, maintaining the status quo or following the crowd. I like anything that is unique, thought provoking, genuine and well thought out, including experiences, conversations and objects.
It's an extension of me and my passions. What are my passions? I enjoy getting to know people. Hearing your history, your stories, and your hopes for the future cultivates a connection I don't take lightly. I enjoy helping people see. Rediscovering the love of reading or rediscovering oneself.

NAONED began with strong conviction from French optician, Jean-Phillipe Douis. He wanted design eyewear and have it made completely in France. You see, in 1980, there were 250 manufacturing workshops in France. Today, there are only a dozen left. Passionate manufacturers who perpetuate the French eyeglass manufacturing savoir-faire make NAONED frames.
Nina Mr glasses are more than an accessory, they're a design piece. Like good furniture or a timeless garment that retains its value, each frame forges a lasting bond with its owner. Handmade (yes, one by one) of wood in Madrid, these lightweight, comfortable styles are durable and fully customizable.
A few very short years ago, a representative came to my shop to show me this exciting new collection, sabine be. I was blown away and instantly ordered several frame styles for my customers at One Hip Chic. The representative was excited too. He called Sabine right there on the spot and, the excitement continued, with a conversation between us about her eyewear that still has me smiling.
However, some insurance companies will reimburse you if you go out of network. We will gladly give you an itemized receipt and/or fill out the insurance forms to submit for reimbursement. Another alternative is to purchase a frame here and bring it somewhere that accepts insurance for lenses.

One Hip Chic Optical is entitled to the highest rating possible, without a doubt! I would recommend this locally-owed shop to anyone anytime. Tamra, the owner, is professional, extremely knowledgeable, and experienced, plus her low-keyed approach is welcoming. Her skill set is remarkable.

Without question, the best, most unique, frames in Rochester! Customer service is incredible! Highly recommend this place!
Update: About 6 years ago, I purchased two pairs of glasses from One Hip Chic. They have held up wonderfully. I'm still in love with them, but I finally wanted an update. One Hip Chic remains my go to place. I love Tamra's selection of frames- they're truly unique.. I've lived in much larger cities and I have yet to find a selection like hers. However, what really makes this place unique, is Tamra's advice... she will show you frames you might not ordinarily consider, yet

Walk into your own private paradise at One Hip Chic.
Superior service with a selection you might otherwise have to travel to Europe to be exposed to.
All of the glasses are neatly lined up in drawers which add both to the mystique of the process and remind us that we are purchasing not just something practical, but something wonderful, special and unique!
The last time I visited the store was about fifteen years ago when I was visiting from NC and mom needed (and bought) glasses from Tamra's former location on Park Ave. That memory was so rich and happy that I thought of no other place

Went looking for glasses that were stylish and hip. A lot of places had glasses that were just fine, but here we found the combination of hip, style and yet not too crazy that we were looking for. The frames weren't too badly priced, the lenses were a bit over-priced, but we just added it in to finding the "just right" frames. Loved their choices and help was right on in choosing frames.

Very high quality and unique glasses. They are pricey but glasses are a health and fashion investment. The owner is very knowledgeable of her inventory and the story behind each frame. I would highly recommend if you want quality glasses that you will not see anywhere else. I regret not living closer so I could purchase my eyewear exclusively from One Hip Chic.

Tamra's is a phenomenal shop. The frames have character and personality. Tamra will help you find a perfect match between your personality and character and those of the frames. She will never let the frames dominate. But her frames can sometimes help you discover the side of yourself that you did not know you had or were too shy to embrace.

I don't give 5 stars easily, but Tamra at One Hip Chic deserves every star and more. If I could give 6, 7, or 8 stars, I would. There is absolutely nothing I would change about my experience there -- hence the 5 stars.
First, the setting is serene -- up among the trees of Park Avenue, on the 2nd floor -- close enough to all that is hip on Park Ave, yet quietly away from it all with wooden floors, large windows, and then the understated, unobtrusive, superior service a-la-Tamra begins.
If you are like me, choosing what to wear is not your strength. I have no idea what looks "good"

I've had "four eyes" since fifth grade and have never experienced an optician like Tamra. She's the owner and the only employee I have interacted with at One Hip Chic, and is among one of the most gracious individuals I have ever met!
Originally I walked into One Hip Chic with the intention to peruse their spectacles (no appointment is necessary). She sells glasses from boutique designers from France, Italy, England, and the U.S. that you will most certainly not find in any other shop in Rochester.

Rochester is blessed to have one of the most dedicated optical fashionistas dwelling right here in our midst -- keeping us from being relegated to stamped out, boring, plain eyewear that looks more like something extruded from an angry blender. This is indeed One Hip Chic. Go there! Your eyes will thank you for it.
