As an accomplished Design Colorist for Frederic Fekkai Salon and Spa in Beverly Hills, Dawn's work has been acknowledged and featured in magazines, such as LA Confidential, Marie Claire, Elle, Town and Country, Playboy, More and Teen.
Her work has also been featured in movies, Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, Clock Stoppers, Fast and Furious, and Southland Tales just to name a few. All of her passions have come together here-beauty, earth-friendly and socially-conscious practices, business & healing! I started seeing Vanessa when I was 15. Six vastly different hair colors, three radical chops, and nine years later, I'm still going to her for all my hair needs. So, it's pretty safe to say that she and the entire Ubuntu team are AMAZING.

Ubuntu Hair Studio is one of the best kept secrets around... AMAZING talent in this place. Every time I see someone with a bad cut or color I want to refer them to Ubuntu. Any color, any cut they do a fabulous job and will make your hair look its best. I have been going since they opened and thoroughly recommend them to everyone. As a part of the Ubuntu team, I felt immediately welcome not only by my co-workers, but the clients as well. Ubuntu has an atmosphere that makes it automatic to relax, breathe, and just feel good.
As a client, I felt taken care of, related to and even loved. True kindness can't be faked and it is in absolute abundance in this place. Whether you are an old friend of "I am because we are" or a fresh beautiful face, your attendance will be happily met. Not to mention i've never seen a woman or man walk out of there who didn't have fabulous, healthy hair.

Dawn and Vanessa know what glamorous hair is all about. Color, cut, shine, good blow outs. Just cuz you're hair has grays doesn't mean it has to shout OLD all over town! Modern hair is colored hair - highlighted hair! In my humble opinion. Vanessa cuts and colors my "brown/blonde/whatever" head of hair; people compliment it all the time. You get bang for your mucho bucks here.

When you find a good stylist - YOU STAY WITH THEM. Dawn is the best! I found her a year or so ago and my hair has never been healthier or looked better. She does a base color to color my roots and does highlights and low lights. Most important, she really listens to what I want and pays attention to how I wear my hair. She's great about offering honest advice and suggestions when I'm not sure too. The salon is clean, bright and simply beautiful.

I love this salon!! I have a lot of hair that is very high maintenance. I have been going to Serena for 4 years now and she is exceptional! I have very thick hair, the color is a rich medium brown with highlights, and I am currently going with my natural curl. Serena does a great job with coloring, highlights, and styling my hair. She is showing me how to manage my hair and she makes it look beautiful and professional. The salon is beautiful, comfortable, and the staff is very welcoming!

From the moment that you enter the salon to the moment that you leave Ubuntu, the focus is on you. Dawn, the owner, is a master at her craft of hair color. She is professional, warm, detailed and efficient. Most importantly the results are top notch. From what I can see the other stylists are achieving beautiful results too. Ubuntu is the best salon in San Diego, no need to travel to LA.
