Dr. Matthew Matsunaga (optometry) took my husband in for a same-day exam when his ophthalmologist said he was too booked to fit him in. Not knowing what we were dealing with, Dr. Matsunaga still told him to come in so we drove from Orange County to Torrance. Dr. wanted to closely monitor his inflamed cornea so he was in contact 3 consecutive days and we went back to Torrance three days later. Dr. Matsunaga also said to contact our ophthalmologist to get a follow up appointment and what needs to be said while offering to call too. Scarring could have occurred had my husband waited. We are forever

I was anxious about needing to find a new doctor, dentist, optometrist, etc when I first moved to LA a few years ago. I got really lucky in finding Dr. Matsunaga. He’s very nice, patient, and knowledgeable, and his office has a wonderful and varied selection of frames. I keep coming back for my annual exams and will continue to do so.

Dr. Matsunaga is my eye care professional. He and his team work very hard and are accommodating in getting you in and even remind you with a text message about upcoming appointments. The office is spotless, people are friendly and Dr. Matt is an expert Dr of Optometry. I've been to other places and this is first class service.

Update: My eye exam is fully covered by VSP vision insurance. However the front desk submitted duplicate claims to VSP and my medical insurance for the eye exam. Then the office sent me a bill to cover my medical deductible for the eye exam. Thought I wouldn’t notice? Shady! Greedy! Dishonest!
Easy-going experience at Southwood Optometry. Dr. Matsunaga takes time to explain the eye exam and options for glasses, contact lenses, etc. I'll definitely be back for my annual exam.

I've bounced around a lot of places due to school and work, and it's always a rigorous process to find a place to depend on, especially for something as important as my eyes! So I was back for my yearly check up and I really can't say enough nice things about Dr Matsunaga and his Staff. I always have fun there especially talking about food! Great tips on local eats so make sure you ask them
Anyway my prescription is still good so I don't need New glasses which is another great thing about Southwood; they don't oversell you, if you need glasses great but if you don't they don't try to make you buy anything!!
But they are just great people providing a great service. Wish I didn't have to wait a year to see them all!

Started taking my kids here last year and we are back again this year for my baby girl, who now needed glasses. Took a week to get the order in which is great and my daughter had a good time and the staff is very nice and very informative. I wasn't able to attend the appointment for I was at work but her dad brought her and I was able to call and speak with doctor about her appointment and he was so helpful in answering all my questions and concerns. Thank you again South Bay optometry
