Services
The Meditation Center of Chicago was founded by a small Thai Buddhist community who believe a more harmonious and peaceful world can be brought about through teaching meditation. Our goals are to spread the many benefits of mindfulness meditation, offer information on Buddhist tradition, and provide an environment for anyone interested in exploring the richness of Thai culture.
Our teaching monks, staff and volunteer dedicate their time in order to practice generosity to maintain balance of mind, and to generate love and compassion. Selfless service is an essential part of the path of inner peace, an important step in the direction of liberation. With these feelings of love and compassion, the wish naturally arises to help others attain inner peace and happiness.
Visualization - Gently focus the mind on an image, typically a bright object like a sun, moon, or crystal ball. Envision this object slowly getting brighter and clearer. Keep the mind fixed on the object while breathing normally. Visualization is a powerful technique that can keep the mind from wandering.
Our meditation classes are conducted by Middle Way meditation instructors, and practitioners. They teach easy to learn techniques that when practiced regularly can lead to a calmer, happier state-of-mind. Though many of us are aware that meditation can help with stress, it's hard to find time to relax and focus.
If you're curious about other meditation techniques, dhamma practice and attaining a deeper understanding of Buddhism we've provided several resources below to help you. Included are downloadable meditation apps, links to the Dhammakaya website and more. We hope you enjoy learning about Buddhism and find these tools useful on your own journey toward inner peace.

I'm not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews and why I have never been here before. It is just a mile away from my house!

Free meditation classes (donations are accepted) are offered on Wednesdays at 7pm-8pm and Saturdays 10am-11am. The class starts with 10 minute stretching exercises, followed by a 50 minute guided meditation. I am a beginner, so I absolutely loved the guidance because my mind kept wandering.

The instructor and other staff members were incredibly welcoming, hospitable, and generous. They even invited us to a homemade Thai lunch downstairs after the meditation
