Evergreen Cemetery
Evergreen Cemetery was founded by New Haven's most prominent citizens in 1848. We welcome you to walk the 85 acres that comprise the cemetery. Its park-like setting is truly a haven of tranquility. Each season portrays its own beauty from the blush of pink dogwood blossoms in springtime, through the canopy of trees that offer summer's shade, to the most beautiful colors of autumn leaves, and finally winter's snowy peacefulness.

Evergreen Cemetery has an established permanent perpetual care fund so it will be as beautiful in the future as it is today. Evergreen Cemetery is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization which is managed by the Association's board of trustees. It is staffed by full-time professionals who are available from 7:30am until 4:00pm each day and on Saturday mornings from 8:00am until noontime.
Services
Of course, the optimum would be to know when one is going to die, then the plans could be made beforehand and everything would be perfect. In fact, one can decide on his/her burial lot pre-need by working with either Dale J. Fiore, General Manager, or Anthony Cerillo, Assistant, to choose the exact place where you or a loved one would like to be placed for perpetuity.
Evergreen Crematory was created to give the people of greater New Haven a choice between burial and cremation. Cremation opens up many new avenues for disposition of cremated remains: burial, scattering in our beautiful scatter gardens, or placement in a niche with the security of remaining within the grounds of Evergreen Cemetery.
The Evergreen Columbarium offers memorial alcoves (niches) for permanent placement of cremated remains above ground. It currently includes an octagonal, two triads, and two t-shaped sections. The interior of each alcove is lined with stainless steel and includes a secure inner shutter.

A loved one's name and dates of birth and death, as well as military insignia (if applicable), is engraved on the exterior polished pearl granite memorial alcove shutter.Cremated remains can be shipped directly to us for memorialization and a memorial service can be arranged if desired by the family.

I came to Evergreen Cemetery for the sole purpose of visiting the resting place of Sarah Winchester - heiress of the Winchester gun magnate fortune and creator of the Winchester Mystery House back in my home state of California!

The cemetery grounds are absolutely massive and gorgeous! Very peaceful once you get inside...but outside of the cemetery the neighborhood is super sketchy! The entrance is easy to find right off a Main Street.

The grave is a tad hard to find - I used the cemetery map and the instructions from Atlas Obscura as much as I could and eventually found it. Basically take

The cemetery is beautiful but people are not welcome to walk through it. I was harassed and yelled at by staff walking through the park with my new born baby in the stroller. The staff cornered me as I was trying to leave and told me I wasn't welcome. I tried to follow up with the manager once I was safely home but they never got back to me. I am still so confused by this interaction and experience as I was literally just walking through with a stroller.

Visited this cemetery to locate the grave of Midnight Mary. It is a fascinating tale. The cemetery was very peaceful, quiet, and clean. The paths were labeled but we had a hard time finding the stone number markers. Mary Hart is located near marker 50 and 51 on the Winthrop Road side. The cemetery is large with a nice large fountain. The grounds were very well kept.
