We are a Berkeley, California-based naming and writing studio. Since 1990, we've kept busy working with passionate people who can embrace creativity without being assholes. So far, so good. EERO was the first wireless router to bring design sensibilities to setting up and using a Wi-Fi network. The name Eero, inspired by the life and work of architect and designer Eero Saarinen, positions the product as an extension of the hearth and home.
We worked with the founding team to develop a name for the company that could also work as the name of their product. Years later, we worked with their marketing team to develop a strategic naming architecture for their expanding product line. Their placeholder name when they first came to us had trademark challenges.

The company was founded in 1990 by Danny Altman after leaving the pioneering design/ad agency Altman + Manley. Danny's son, Eli, grew up around the studio and joined full-time in 2009, becoming Creative Director in 2012. Rose Linke and Ben Weis joined the team in 2009 and 2011. Eli grew up drawing and writing in Northern California.
This reaction creates an opportunity for you to show people the difference you can make in their lives. A word, a short phrase at most. There's a natural tendency to try to pour everything into a name, but the reality is it won't all fit. Words only have so many definitions. We spend a lot of our energy on projects figuring out what a name is best suited to communicate.
Our process is designed to first uncover what you actually need, by understanding the role writing will play in your brand and where we can make the greatest impact. We can't do our job without you. Before we put pen to paper (or fingers to keys), we start by listening. Your story begins with you. Whether you know it or not, you already have a point of view on the world, a reason for doing what you do.
Our clients have a few things in common: they're passionate about their work, they're ready to do something different, and at one point they decided we were the right team to help them get there. Our studio believes strongly in social equity and prioritizing projects that make the world a better place for plants and animals, including humans.
We wrote two books about naming things, and you can buy them. Either you'll end up with a name-or with the knowledge that paying us to do the work is worth it. I found A Hundred Monkeys to assist me in naming a service. The company has done a very good job of marketing themselves and their rates for their services are competitive. They promised that they would work very hard to understand my business and my service to come up with a name for the service. This is an abstract service but they claim to be very experienced in this process and I had no reason to think that they would not perform. They took my money and then it went to hell. They came up with a list of 10 potential names. One name was worse than the next. I am not sure this was not their
