Network America Lines was founded by R. Kenneth Johns, former President of Sea-Land Service, in 1998. Initially, its service focused on Russia and the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union. During the early start-up period, NAL shipped considerable amounts of humanitarian aid cargo for the U.S. Department of State and other governmental agencies and NGOs, as well as commercial cargo to this region.
