You are meant to feel vibrant and healthy, but sometimes this innate drive is derailed due to the pressures of modern living. Your body has resources to keep you feeling well; it just needs a helping hand from time to time.
We offer care for the whole family that integrates evidence-based medicine with the best of natural medicine. This means we are trained to provide conventional care (pharmaceuticals, diagnostic labs, imaging, etc) along with complementary and alternative care. Each of our physicians are additionally trained in acupuncture and Chinese medicine diagnosis, providing more tools for you.
We make sure every new patient feels welcome, safe and taken care of. During your first visit, a physician will review your medical history and gather a comprehensive overview of your health concerns. For diagnosis, they will begin examination and develop a thorough, personalized treatment plan by integrating clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, bodywork, and homeopathic remedies with traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.
We accept insurance and are preferred providers for many insurance companies. We offer insurance billing services for our patients. Each insurance plan differs, so please let tell us about your insurance information when scheduling a new appointment. For those without insurance coverage, we ask that full payment be made at the time of service.

Dr. Yates is the first Doctor in 12 years who is willing to help me get to the bottom of my health issues. I’ve seen multiple Doctors and while I still don’t have a diagnosis I’ll at least getting some very specific tests others were unwilling to get. Every other doctor got my labs, did through food allergy and other tests but I continued to get viruses and infections. Don’t accept “you’re fine” if you still aren’t okay. Go to Doctor Yates and get real answers to heal up.

I was seeing Dr. Molly for about 6 months, and was recently very sad to leave her care as I moved across the country. I have been to a lot of MDs and NDs and no one has helped me as much as Dr. Molly. Her integrative and holistic practice is second to none. She creates a great space to really listen and learn what is going on with you, and is a master of her craft. Can't recommend her, or this practice, highly enough!

As a tourist, visiting Portland recently, I developed a medical problem. I received excellent, same-day care from Dr. Elise Wong at Essential Family Medicine. Not only did she diagnose and care for the problem, she identified another medical issue which my doctor at home had missed and fortunately, now I am getting the proper treatment for that as well. This is a great example of the mission of Dr. Wong and Dr. Forsten at Essential Family Medicine--to treat the whole person, not just the particular complaint. I highly recommend this practice.
