Los Alamos Surgical Associates
Los Alamos Medical Center is a 47-bed acute-care facility, the major health care institution and the only hospital in the community. Its medical staff of 55 active, and another 40 consulting physicians, bring to the community a level of sophisticated medical technology and technique not common to "small community hospitals."

Best known for its high-touch care, those it has served in Northern New Mexico for nearly 40 years consider the hospital a regional medical center. A majority of the active physicians have their main offices on the medical center campus. Our parent corporation is LifePoint Hospitals, Inc., of Brentwood, TN.

ER wait times, as displayed on this website, are an average and provided for informational purposes only. If you are having a medical emergency, call 9-1-1. The ER wait time as shown is calculated using a 4 hour rolling average which is updated every 15 minutes. Each time used to calculate the average is defined as the time of patient registration at the ER until the time a patient is greeted by a qualified medical professional.
Selection of a health care provider is a personal choice. Most or all of the health care providers performing services in this Hospital are independent contractors who have privileges to practice at the Hospital but they are not Hospital employees, representatives or agents. This includes but is not limited to radiologists, pathologists, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, surgeons and others.
Thank you for choosing Los Alamos Medical Center to meet your health care needs. We consider it a privilege to serve you and your family. The goal of every Los Alamos Medical Center staff member is to make your stay as pleasant and as comfortable as possible while following the medical care plan especially designed for you by your physician.
We bring family and friends together during any type of health event. Think of us as an online space where you can connect, share and receive support-kind of like a "caring" social network. Whether you start a Site, set up a SupportPlanner, or join a community CaringBridge makes it simple. SupportPlanner: Our planner helps family and friends coordinate care and helpful tasks, like bringing a meal, taking care of pets and other needs.

Dr Hammond in the ER basically mocked me for going there. I had IBS and was having the worst abdominal pain that day when I went in. After hearing it was “just IBS” he mocked me for being there, he said he could do nothing to help, and I should just go home, take a shower and relax. I’d avoid this doctor AT ALL COSTS. By the way I was billed $150 simply for vitals taken.

The emergency room personnel are RUDE, Incompetent, unprofessional . Go to Santa Fe or Espanola! Dr Hammond, Chris Hammond, hung up on me 2 times after basically over dosing an 8 month old baby. The receptionist is RUDE and there needs to be al little more oversight. Malpractice is the norm as is rudeness. No wonder no one goes to the hospital in Los Alamos .

Horrible, horrible, horrible. I don't even want to start relating my first - and hopefully last!! - experience here. Unless you're in an ambulance, go ANYWHERE else!
Edit. Giving another star because, as usual, the actual medical professionals were just fine ... it's the office/support personnel that's the real problem. Just miserable.

I went to Los Alamos medical center, earlier this week. I’ve had a problem for 5 years & after going to about 14 different doctors in Albuquerque & not receiving the care I needed, I had to go to los Alamos. The doctor in dermatology gave me a diagnosis & cleared up problem in a matter of 3 days. I will forever be grateful.

If I could give this medical center zero stars I would. They do everything in their power to keep their patients sick. I’ve been repeatedly hung up on and denied medical help. Surgical referrals have been rejected repeatedly and I have waited days for a simple call back. This is no place to go if you require ACTUAL medical help.

It was a horrible experience all around. I used to go here for Dr. Power, who was great, but she left.
Do NOT go here for urgent care. They will charge you like you're in the ER and your bill will literally be 10 times what it would be at Trinity Urgent Care for the same thing.
Also, I got a really bad nurse practitioner once when I went to their urgent care. I had been around my sister who had pneumonia, and I caught whatever she had. Same symptoms a couple weeks later. Instead of giving me something to help (like my sister got from her doctor), the NP told me it was "allergies" (I don't have

The receptionist that handled my call was extremely rude. This is unfortunate, because her poor behavior and temperament is the first impression that people get when calling the hospital. Maybe hire a receptionist that isn’t miserable and actually wants to help?

Went for a CT scan and paid upfront, I then got a another bill two weeks later from XRANM. Why should I have to pay two bills? If the hospital uses another company for help then they should pay that another company. This hospital enjoys extorting the residents of LA.

Super disorganized. They have been confused each time I have checked in, having trouble understanding or verifying that I had an appointment. This time, they thought I had been there the previous month, when I hadn't been there for over a year. They lost my order for routine screenings from my general practioner and couldn't find his information despite me giving it to them several times and also giving them a URL to their web site.

About a year ago I was admitted to the ER here after suffering my first seizure the doctor on staff never saw me and despite this misdiagnosed my seizure as a panic attack. I then struggled for almost the entire following year to get a proper diagnosis of what was really going. Ironically this whole experience has given me anxiety problems. I was admitted to this ER again this year where yet again my SVT and heart arrhythmia were misdiagnosed as just another panic attack after being admitted again a very good doctor who works in this ER found the arrhythmia and transferred me to Albuquerque to
