Royal Chimney Service is a family-owned and operated small business serving the Bay Area from our base in San Jose. Tony Xaviel founded the business in 1986 and runs it with his family today. Tony is a licensed masonry contractor, and uses his expertise to reduce the risk of chimney fires and to make sure chimneys are strong enough for our earthquake-prone area.
We have been fortunate to be voted "Best in the West" by the San Jose Mercury News and also to be recommended by many real estate agents, homeowners, and general contractors. Yelpers like us too.

Services
Royal Chimney services has proudly serviced the Bay Area for over 35 years. We have perfected the art of chimney cleaning, restoration and repairs. Our family owned and operated staff is dedicated to providing superior service, to ensure your fireplace will burn efficiently and safely. Having regular chimney inspections & cleaning will reduce the risk of chimney fire.
Indicate if the chimney is reinforced or un-reinforced and if FHA straps are present with exterior bracing. If your appliance or your venting system has not changed and you plan to use your system as you have in the past, then a Level 1 inspection is a minimum requirement. A Level 1 inspection is recommended for a chimney under continued service, under the same conditions, and with the continued use of the same appliance.
We recommend Tim Dauber (aka "The Bee Nerd") for bee removal in and around the San Jose area. Tim can be reached at (408) 857-0238. He will help you get rid of your bees without getting stung! Two critical pieces of equipment to maximize the efficiency and longevity of your fireplace. One part of the answer might surprise you: the kindling goes on top.

I am so skeptical about the casual, quick chimney cleaning that was just done at a cost of $200 per chimney (2 chimneys) that I will most likely hire another company to come out and check. In the 30 yrs of owning this house, this was the only service to complete the job in 1 hour-for Both chimneys! He was on my roof for mere minutes and I never saw brushes even come out of his car. Additionally he left my fire screen on my carpet-without even the thought of putting down a cloth to protect. I was left feeling as if I had interrupted his weekend - and he was eager to return to.

Really impressed with Royal Chimney. Arrived on time. Did his work. Spotless inside when he left. Very nice to chat with too.
When I asked him "how frequently should we be getting this done?" his answer was with respect to how much wood we burn, what type, and the frequency. I appreciated this because it wasn't just a "every 12 months" it was "here's how you can estimate it" which is a very honest answer.
We'll be calling these folks again.

Yes, I said no rush. You replied that you'd get someone over the next Wednesday. No one showed on Wednesday, and you went radio silent. If you had taken 30 seconds to text me earlier, I wouldn't have written the review as it was written. Also, I presumed there would be a nominal charge of some sort.
I'm updating the review to a 4 star. I believe that is fair all things considered.

We couldn't be happier that we hired Royal Chimney Services to clean and inspect our chimney. They were responsive, on time, thorough, clean, and personable. They found a slight blockage and fixed it at no extra charge. They also gave us tips on using our fireplace so it drafted properly. That night we had the best fire we have ever had in our fireplace!

Ever since moving into our home nearly 13 years ago, we have never used our fireplace. It has been hidden behind a couch for some time and even though a lot of dust and cobweb have built up over the years, we haven't paid any attention to it.
A few days ago, however, we detected a foul odor in our house, which we traced to the fireplace. The odor inside was quite unpleasant, and it was clear that something was decomposing somewhere in the chimney or in other parts of the fireplace. Our ash cleanout on the outside of the house is covered by a wooden deck, with a trapdoor panel for access

Right from the initial call things were fast, professional and friendly. Tony in the office went out of his way to find a time that worked for us. The service guy, Steven, arrived as arranged and got to work straight away. We were impressed by his encyclopedic knowledge of fireplaces and chimneys. He immediately recognized our stove make, explained the pros and cons plus what we need to keep an eye out for. In addition to clearing out a terribly blocked chimney, including removing the stove pipe, he fixed the door gasket and gave us a very informative lesson on proper fire techniques and ideal
