You manage your assets now. How will they be managed when you're gone? If you're in retirement or considering retirement, it's critical to solidify a plan for your family. Planning is equally important if you are concerned about long term care for you or your parents, or providing for children. Not feeling a sense of urgency about estate planning?
My life experiences, training, gifts and passions have all come together in my current career. I have been in situations similar to many of my clients, and I know what will help them. 20 years ago my first husband was tragically killed in a car accident. After the initial shock, I spent years supporting my young children as they grieved, representing them in the ensuing estate dispute, and working with the trustee of their trust.

Your estate is the material culmination of your life's work. An estate plan ensures you will have some control over what happens to it when you're gone. Who will benefit from your hard work, and when? How should your estate be managed? The goal of your estate plan is to answer these questions while paying minimal taxes, legal fees and court costs.
When most people think of estate planning, they think about paperwork, morbidity, impossible decisions and legal fees. Planning the distribution of your hard earned assets is critical to your family, but usually it's just so painful. Not only is it difficult and morbid to think about your own death, it's also extremely inconvenient and time consuming.
Did you know that when your son or daughter turns 18 years old, you lose the legal authority to help them with legal and healthcare matters? What's worse, they are left without support they may need at a critical time. You also lose your rights to digital assets in an emergency (phone, laptop, photos, emails, etc.)
An Asset Protection Plan protects assets and care options while minimizing hassles for loved ones. The plan addresses payment of long-term care expenses while protecting assets and maximizing eligibility for Medical Assistance and options for care. We hope for the best and plan for the worst - the good news is that Medical Assistance is available if you need it, but the complex rules must be followed.
Margaret was interviewed by Mary Hanson for her cable TV show, "The Mary Hanson Show." Mary has the longest running independent cable TV show in the country. With all that experience, Mary is great at what she does!
She asked Margaret questions many people have about elder law, paying for long term care, the documents everyone needs, etc. Mary was very interested to learn about the relatively new way of protecting assets by using an annuity acceptable to Medical Assistance.Elder law involves more than just protecting your elderly loved one's assets.

Margaret and her team at Safe Harbor were so very helpful in putting my financial affairs in order. It's such a good feeling to know that I've done everything to prepare my family financially for when I'm no longer here on this earth. She asked good questions, giving the pros and cons of various decisions I might make. I know that they are still there for me even though we have a well written and documented plan. I would recommend them again!

Safe Harbor is exactly what it sounds like… a safe place. I was in a precarious family situation and needed help with adjusting my will, healthcare directive, and POA paperwork. Not only did I feel welcomed and supported by their staff, but they went above and beyond in their services. They thought of every potential pitfall and safety measure to make sure I was protecting myself. Margaret is passionate about helping those who are vulnerable, and her values are the foundation of the entire company.
Every staff member I interacted with was great. They were patient, compassionate, knowledgeable

Safe Harbor Estate Law first worked with me in 2017 to complete my Living Will and Estate Plan. They were very thorough and everything went smoothly. What really impressed me about them was how they worked to iron out the issues when I was refinancing with Wells Fargo. Safe Harbor’s lawyers interceded on my behalf to clarify the issues with the title. They took a frustrating situation that Wells Fargo didn’t know how to sort out and solved the problems so that the refinancing went ahead without a hitch. This year they worked with me to update my Will and Estate Plan and again I appreciated

I have hired Safe Harbor Estate Law three times now for a variety of professional services including some rather strange twists and quirks associated with settling the estates of my parents and my brother. I found their staff to be quick to respond, extremely friendly and of course professional. I will hire them again if the need arises!

We chose the "Smooth Sailing System" plan for setting up our Trust, Wills, Power of Attorney, and Health Care directives. It was a thorough process and helped us think through all of our Estate planning options. Richard was helpful in explaining the terminology related to Trusts and detailing what we should expect to take place in the future with our Estate, based on our plan. We were provided a detailed plan for steps, or homework, after completing the process. Which made us feel like we'd made the right decision in hiring Safe Harbor Estate Law firm for our Estate planning. Professional, detailed

Margaret and the staff were warm and patient in helping me through developing a trust and health care directive. They were clear with informing me about the steps I needed to take with getting my property, assets and accounts transferred into my trust. They provided we with a great organizer so that the documents needed could be easily found. They made copies of my trust/health care directives for the executors of my trust.
Since we have completed my trust and health care directives, I have used them to provide documents needed for a Heloc loan. They are currently are helping me develop a contract
