Einar Berlin founded Berlin Flooring in 1953, and his son, Steve Berlin, took over the company in 1991 and still runs the company today. Berlin Flooring follows the guidelines set forth by the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) to make sure you receive a floor that will stand the test of time. Subfloor: we inspect your subfloor to make sure it is suitable for the type of hardwood floor we are installing. Plywood and OSB are screwed down to eliminate squeaks.
Hardwood floor refinishing takes years of training to truly master. When deciding on a hardwood flooring contractor to refinish your hardwood floors, it's important to consider that you get what you pay for. If you only focus on the price per square foot, you will be missing out on the best value for your money.
Dust mop or vacuum the floor on a regular basis to remove dirt and grit that may cause premature wear of the floor finish. This is the most important thing you can do to properly maintain your floors. Dirt and grit acts like sandpaper on your finished floors, gradually wearing it down over time. Clean your hardwood floors with a specific hardwood floor cleaner such as Glitsa Clean.
Conversion Varnish (Swedish finish): this type of finish is often referred to as "Glitsa" because it is manufactured by the company Glitsa American, Inc. Conversion Varnish is a two-component finish with alcohol as the solvent and cures because of acid catalyzation. It was developed in Sweden in the early 1950's and introduced to the U.S. market later that decade.
We are a full service hardwood flooring contractor that handles every phase of your project: the interior design consultation to choose the right hardwood floor for your home, supplying the wood flooring materials, and performing the installation, sanding and finishing. We also handle the required prep work when necessary: subfloor repairs, floor leveling, removal of carpet, tile, baseboard trim, etc.

Berlin did a great job refinishing our hardwood floors. Scott was knowledgeable and professional during his consultation. He was also helpful in answering emails on how to care for our refinished floor and how to protect them during some other home projects.

Our hardwoods look amazing. My only problems with them was the fact that they seemed pushy to finalize the sale and get my deposit then they took forever to get me on the installation schedule. To top things off I have a few boards that are slightly cracked and they keep putting me off when I talk about a warranty claim... no regrets, the floors look great.

I absolutely love our new wood floors. Berlin Flooring was an amazing company to work with. I did a lot of research prior to having our project started, and I 💯% made the right decision. They are very professional, do incredible workmanship, and they’re very clean, we had hardly any clean up for such a big job. They did our entire main floor and our basement. Both look spectacular. Steve and Scott were so professional and helpful during this process. Refurbishing/finishing older floors is quite the ordeal and I can assure you Berlin Flooring is surely worth it. Since we very much relied on reviews in choosing Berlin Flooring, I want to make sure you know our experience with this company so you can weigh it in.
In general, I found these guys (from the owner all the way down) to be very unprofessional.
Here are some, but not all, of our issues:
-- did NOT protect my walls and got stain all over the walls (see below for more info about this issue)
-- did not prep floor adequately so had a great deal of trouble with how the floors accepted the stain
-- started to put the WRONG STAIN on our floors and my partner caught it at the last minute (thankfully

We've been working with Scott and his team on refinishing our oak floors (17 years old on main floor and new unfinished upstairs). The floors turned out just perfect! We were out of town on a vacation when the job was done and came back to a wonderful result. Very pleased!
The only thing is it was not dustless. I mean they did good job cleaning the floors but fine sawdust was left on the textured walls, closet shelves, and the windows. After moving to Colorado, I remodeled my home and only two companies I worked with did their job perfectly, and this company did perfect work. I was totally satisfied! Scott impressed me because he was the only person who came to give me an estimate and told me what type of wood I had existing in part of my house. They refinished the wood floors I had and put in new wood floors in the bedrooms and hall. They did a great job and it was a fair price. I would definitely recommend them. The installer did an excellent job. Totally satisfied.

Scott, Steve, Mannie and Miguel with Berlin flooring did a wonderful job on our floors. We moved into a house with 10 year old floors and Scott was very professional. He knew right away what kind of floors we had and how to refinish them. We got 4 bids and Scott/Berlin was defiantly the BEST and right choice. I echo Bob A's rave review. Berlin installed new flooring (and did an excellent job) and they also did some repairs and spot refinishing on existing floor, and did an excellent job getting the old and new finishes to blend. Philip did a meticulous installation. Manny and his crew did thorough prep, making sure our furnishings were protected from dust, and left the jobsite spotless each day, in addition to nice sanding/sealing.

This is the 4th hardwood floor refinishers I have used, and the one I will stick with moving forward. They returned my call promptly, Scott cane over to give me a quote, met my desired dates to get it done, were prompt, informative, and did an excellent job. And my job was not easy.
