Alterna-Care Home Health System was founded in 1990 by five registered nurses who wanted to provide physicians and their patients a higher quality of home healthcare; free from the bureaucracy found in many hospital-based agencies.
The dream of these five nurses was to establish a free-standing home health agency that understood the constant demands of a physician's time, but more importantly, understood that compassion coupled with expert care in the home will speed the healing process.This simple philosophy became the cornerstone of an organization that constantly strives to provide the highest quality of care to as many people possible.

Alterna-Care Home Health System is a Medicare certified, and Illinois Department of Public Health licensed home health agency. As an acknowledgement of our continuity in excellence we have been accredited by the Joint Commission, which requires Alterna-Care Home Health System to abide by higher standards in providing home nursing.
Alterna-Care partners with Honeywell HomMed to provide daily monitoring of vital signs, weight, blood glucose, and pulse oxygen levels. The Honeywell HomMed Health Monitoring System has two main components. The telemonitoring unit, which is placed in the user's home or clinical environment collects and transmits health status information from the user to the Central Station at our home health agency in Springfield, Illinois.
Assisted living is a valuable option for those that require help with everyday tasks but do not require medical assistance. Situated on over an acre, our secured home is the Bed and Breakfast of Assisted Living. We offer residents country living at its finest with fresh air, local wildlife and home cooked meals - just 15 minutes east of Springfield.
Dr. Sgro is a Registered Nurse with a background in medical-surgical, long term care, and oncology nursing. She is a graduate of St. John's Hospital College of Nursing in Springfield, IL.
In addition to her degree in Nursing, Dr. Sgro has received a Bachelor of Science in Health Care from St. Frances College in Joliet, IL, a Master in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Rush University, in Chicago, IL.As founder of Alterna-Care, Dr. Sgro is dedicated to providing holistic care to homebound patients.
