Opioid addiction is a disease of the brain. Through overuse of opioids-whether prescribed medications or illicit drugs the chemistry of the brain is changed. It no longer is able to sufficiently produce its own opioids, known as endorphins, and therefore, signals a person to seek the drug in order to feel "normal."
Mood and anxiety disorders like depression are some of the most common mental illnesses, and can be either chronic or episodic. Mood disorders may be caused by brain functioning, genetic disorder or a life event, causing individuals to be challenged with everyday life functions. Through a variety of treatment options, symptoms can be managed successfully.

Partial program for young adults sucks. All of the group activities are centered around kids games that 65% of the time seem like have no correlation to mental health or coping strategies. The therapist acts more of a doctor then a therapist. Definitely criticizes more than trying to help and just asks you how your feelings and writes it down on paper. Gives no feedback. Psychiatrist will not put you on medications the first day even if you say it’s urgent. Since being here I have noticed a slight reduction in my anxiety’s symptoms though but probably just coincidental timing. Also very annoying

The staff here is extremely rude and are not compassionate at all. There are very few great people here and for them I’m sorry. I’m sorry that they have to work with such inhumane people and honestly they don’t listen to you and don’t treat you like a person! They will straight up insult you many times and pretend it never happened. We are all people trying to make it in this world. Be nice to all! :) (Kim is one of the many unkind nurses who work in the hospital)

Don't expect much, it's either ineffective therapy techniques or the same medications that you can just get from your primary care doctor. There's nothing unique about the care here, if you have anxiety or depression it's literally on par with asking your regular doctor for some antidepressant. They've also been billing me as uninsured for well over a year now when I've told them multiple times that I'm not uninsured. That bill is now at $2900

The fact that this hospital uses QUEST for blood testing is the only criticism I have against this place. But it is a BIG criticism. Someone made a clerical error and failed to submit my bill to the BC/BC Mass and it fell into a void. QUEST demanding $400+payment and cannot reach QUEST. They will not answer the phone. This review should really be about QUEST. They are horrible. This has been going on for 6 months now...and still not resolved... I would suggest getting a blood test elsewhere.

My own personal experience at Butter hospital was very professional. The staff always puts the patient first. They have licensed clinicians and Doctors who are very knowledgeable about several dignoses. They have group through out the day ,most of these groups teach you several different ways to deal with anxiety, breathing techniques, positive thinking and a whole lot more! They are truly blessed to help people who maybe suffering due to stop taking there medications? Or I'm most cases there medications had to be adjusted to a theroputic way.

I have a loved one in their care now. She desperately needs alcoholic help and wants to be in a long term inpatient program.
They are giving her a run around and not telling her the true about where she can go. She’s on Medicare and I found a few places she can go but it seems Butler has no idea about them?? really???
All they seem to care about is money and trying to get her to go to their outpatient program. And NOT thinking about her needs. She needs long term care or she’ll be right back in.. she can’t be sent home and needs to get into inpatient ASAP.

Butler has changed a lot in a short amount of time, and not for the better.
Patients are now treated more like prisoners; no more bringing in your own toiletries or comfort items like coloring books, photos of loved ones, etc.
Last time I was inpatient, a man came into the room I shared with another female to do "checks" which, it was actually more like a raid. He turned the lights on in the middle of the night, flipped mattresses, rifled through belongings...super comforting if one has PTSD, for example.
Beware of Dr. Tara Malakshahi (I likely spelled her last name wrong); in acute

As someone has created a Yelp page for this hospital, I thought that I had to put in my two cents about Butler. Butler is a co-occurring psychiatric facility which means they offer psychiatric and substance use hospitalization, detox, and outpatient services. The grounds are gorgeous and the hospital has been around since the 1800s. It is located on the Butler campus off of Blackstone Blvd in the East Side of Providence. The Butler campus has many buildings including an assisted living facility and other businesses, but the hospital is in the very back of the campus, near the Seakonk River

This places calls itself a hospital, its not. They provide services for Psych/Substance abuse. The staff have no compasion for patients. I witness some of the most unprofessional behavior. If you can go to another location for treatment do so. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and diginity.
