Marine Documentations offers a full line of USCG vessel documentation and other services such as recording ship's mortgages, title searches through NVDC, and Coast Guard Bills of Sale. Our services are available for both new and used boats as well as pleasure and commercial vessels. To be federally documented, the owners of the yacht must be citizens of the United States.
There is no substitute for experience. Our staff has more than 35 years of experience federally registering vessels and perfecting lenders' security interests through a Preferred Ship's Mortgage. The validity of the lender's First Preferred Ship's Mortgage is protected by Errors and Omission insurance for up to $1,000,000.00 per incident.
Title searches are performed on vessels presently documented or registered in a titling state to ascertain ownership and vessel encumbrances. An 'Abstract of Title' is obtained from the United States Coast Guard on vessels which have been documented. A check is also made with the dealer to determine the floor planning bank in order to obtain the Builder's Certificate and Statement of Origin or other floor plan documents.
Presently there are two methods available to lenders to secure boat loans. The size of the boat determines which method is appropriate. As a rule, lenders should require that boats under 25 feet be titled and a notation of the security interest recorded on the title. When lending on boats over 26 feet, a title does not adequately protect the lender.
