A valley filled with mystery, romance and rich memories of long ago. Images of a feeble, somewhat tottering bridge are soon forgotten as one crosses the rickety bridge, to this remarkable wine estate. In 1688, the first French Huguenots came to the Cape, escaping religious persecution in France. The Dutch government of the day granted the Huguenots land in the area then known as Oliphantshoek.
The Franschhoek wine estate, Rickety Bridge, has a winemaking history dating back to the 17th century. It was once part of the original La Provence farm granted to the first French Huguenots who settled in Oliphantshoek (Elephants Corner) and renamed the area, Franschhoek, or 'French Corner'.
Over the years La Provence was subdivided and in 1797 the land which is now known as Rickety Bridge wine estate was granted to the widow, Paulina De Villiers, and she planted the first vines there.Rickety Bridge wine estate is situated less than 3 kilometres from the centre of the quaint Franschhoek town and nestles against the slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains overlooking the majestic Wemmershoek Mountain range.

Loved it!! Such a great place with really great people!! Our very large Meetup group of 50 people went for a private tasting & really enjoyed ourselves so much! They did such a great job taking care of us all, 50 peeps, & having a good time right along with us with their fun personalities! Very interesting good wines & we only tasted 5 of them, gonna have to go back to try more, already mentioned it to the group 😁🍷 Thanks so much for such great hospitality!! I'd rate over 5 stars if I could, so worth it!

The staff of Rickety Bridge is amazing. After being told no due to COVID by multiple venues, they said yes! They allowed us to safely host the bridal party and family after my daughter's wedding. The venue is beautiful and affordable. This place is one of High Point's best kept secrets. Big or small, keep them in mind for your next event.
